I'll be okay. I'm expecting the movie to be a bit of a letdown. Once I was, oh,
five or so pages into the book, I realized the movie could never live up to it,
if for no other reason that nearly three hours isn't long enough. It reminds me
of how New Line Cinema originally tried to make Peter Jackson tell the LOTR
story in only two two-hour films--can't be done. I will say, though, looking at
the trailers, I see that Snyder has put a lot of important moments from the
book in the movie.
I'm actually looking forward to comparing the film with the book, so I'm good
trying to finish the book first. I'm also looking forward to seeing what I hear
is a longer version of the movie that'll come out on the DVD. I hear that one
is nearly four hours long!

The novel is all the things you've mentioned and for that reason you might be
disappointed with the movie especially since it's so fresh in your mind. From
what I hear the movie is a good adaptation but a lot of the little things that
make the book so great gets somewhat lost in translation.

See the movie first.

I'm about halfway through the graphic novel, maybe sixty percent. I'm being
stubborn and refusing to see the flick before I'm done, which I hope will be
Sunday. But it's a very dense read, and I don't typically rush through good
stuff. I like to savor my reading, to take it slower than my ability, to
reread the same text sometimes two or three times in one sitting, then move
forward. Maybe take a day or two off to let my subconscious mull over it. And
believe me Watchmen lends itself to some mulling over. It is incredibly
layered, chock full of dialogue and innuendo, sadness and sickness. Wow.
Can't imagine how much of it will make it to the movie, as even the half of
it i've read would require at least 4 hours to do it justice.
Still, I have a feeling Snyder has done at least a good summary of the spirit
of the book, so I'm looking forward to it. Sunday, hopefully

Watchmen debuted at 12:01am last night to sold out midnight shows around the
country. Variety reports that the much touted superhero movie made $4.6
million in midnight showings, during the wee hours of Friday morning. The
movie played at late-night showings in more than 1500 theaters around the
country.
That’s nearly double what Zack Snyder’s last R-rated fanboy flick, 300
made. That film earned $2.5 million in midnight showings. $4.6 million is a
solid number, whether the early attendance of eager fanboys will translate
into big weekend numbers remains to be seen. To do it, they’ll need more
than the hardcore audience which usually shows up for midnight fangasms.
