This is the second time that the series has been on. They usually run one
series at a time. The last one was Basilisk, which was pretty cool ninja vs
ninja war.

A small warning, to all who haven't partaken -- it is a bit to the risque, at

[scifinoir2] Witchblade' Movie In The Works

2008-05-16 Thread Tracey de Morsella
Any fans of the show?

By ALAN STANLEY BLAIR
Source: Dark Horizons
May-13-2008

http://www.syfyportal.com/news425032.html

It may be a canceled TNT series, but that isn't stopping studios from trying
to bring "Witchblade" to life again ... this time on the big screen.

Dark Horizons is reporting that Platinum Studios, Top Cow Productions and
Arclight Films are joining forces to create a live action feature film based
on the comicbook series.

But if you are a fan of the Yancy Butler old series you shouldn't get too
carried away because this adaptation will be a completely separate entity
altogether.

"Witchblade" is the story of a New York detective named Sara "Pez" Pezzini
and her personal search for justice using the Witchblade -- an ancient,
intelligent, living gauntlet so powerful it can battle Earth's darkest evil
forces. She may fight crime during the day, but the legend of the Witchblade
proves to powerful and soon she finds herself fighting evil on a whole new
level.

No casting has yet been announced and the project will take place in
Australia.

The original series aired from 2001 to 2002 on TNT.

[scifinoir2] Witchblade The Movie in Development Hell

2007-02-18 Thread Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor)
I was typing on an old movie site I used to frequent called
cinescape.com and it redirected to mania.com. Anyway, I found
Witchblade The Movie in Development Hell. I always loved the series and
still mourn its loss, so I was surprised to find it. Read below:

Premise: A female detective comes into possession of a mystical and
powerful weapon that she uses to battle crime and evil.

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi

Production Company: Platinum Studios, IDG Films, Relativity Media

Distributors: Arclight Films

Project Phase: Pre-Production

Source material: Comic Book

Budget: $40 million

Release Date: NA

Who's In It: Rhona Mitra (Rumored), Hannah R. Lay (Young Sabrina)

Who's Making It: Marc Silvestri - Writer (comic book), Ryan Kavanaugh -
Producer, David U. Lee - Producer, Scott Mitchell Rosenberg - Producer,
Lynwood Spinks - Producer, Steven Squillante – Producer

Notes: Two films will be shot at the same time with a $40 million
budget for the full shoot. It appears doubtful that the films will have
any connection with the TV series.

February 3, 2007 - News -Posted by Mania , source: Moviehole

Writer Marty Mustov told MovieHole that he and his writing partner Ethan
Erwin have just begun adapting the horror comic Witchblade for Platinum
Studios and Arclight Films.

“We're taking "Witchblade" strongly in the direction of supernatural
horror”, Mustov tells Moviehole. “We're also writing it with the idea of
a sequel in mind. The first film will be about introducing the world of
the "Witchblade", establishing its powers, and the origin story of the
female protagonist--the one who is destined to wield it against evil.”

December 13, 2005 - News -Posted by Mania , source: Variety

Platinum Studios, IDG Films and Relativity Media are partnering to
finance and produce two back-to-back features based on the Top Cow
property. The announcement makes the second recent step forward for Top
Cow proerpties begin adapted into film, with Timur Bekmambetov recently
announced as the director of Wanted at Universal, and the Pang Brothers
recently announced as directors for the feature film adaptation of Darkness.

Filming of the two features is set to begin next year in China. No
writer or director is yet attached.

While details are still light, it appears that the films will feature
the tradaitional cast from the comic book, that is, Sara Pezinni
wielding the mysterious weapon known as the Withblade. It’s unlikely
that the films will have any connection to the earlier Withcblade
television series which starred Yancy Butler and aired on TNT.

As for the players, Platinum Studios acquired the rights to develop the
Top Cow library of characters for film in the summer of 2004, and is
behind the film adaptations of Top Cow’s Wanted, Darkness, Rising Stars,
Fathom and Magdelena - all of which are in various stages of development
at studios. No studio is currently attached to the Witchblade films.

Meanwhile, IDG Films is a division of the technology media company Intl.
Data Group, and is putting up 50%-60% of the total production budget for
the two feature films, estimated at roughly $40 million, according to
Variety. Arclight Films will handle foreign sales.

Ryan Kavanaugh and Lynwood Spinks from Relativity Media; Platinum’s
Scott Rosenberg; IDG Films' Steven Squillante and David Lee will serve
as producers; Top Cow's Matt Hawkins and Platinum executives Jay Burns
and Aaron Severson will co-produce. Top Cow’s Marc Silvestri and
Arclight's Gary Hamilton and Harrison Kordestani will serve as executive
producers.

"We know that shooting a movie and its sequel back to back is rare, but
'Witchblade' is in good company," Rosenberg told the trade, apparently
referring to the Lord of the Rings and Matrix franchises.
