Since this issue was raised I thought I would refresh another one. Every year or two we get a request about Install functions. I have one that allows the user to not only install a file in a location but set the owner and group Ids along with the permission bits on Unix. Is this something that should get into the core code or just remain a user function? As usual, it is never that easy. The real question is the interface to specifying the permission bits, and any owed/group user ids. What I have works for me but maybe not everyone. Here is what I use. It may not work on Windows but then I suspect the install issues on Windows are different. I do use this on the OSX.
