I see two potential issues:
1. WhereIs('rpm') vs WhereIs('rpmbuild'); those two processes have been
split out for a very long time.
2. If rpm_build_root is not unique then it could conflict with the other
rpmbuild tests.

I tried running all the rpm tests with -j6 in a loop; again there were no
errors, so I don't know for sure. Do you get a stack
trace or something?

there is no stacktrace, the test fails because within the build an update is
triggered, when there should be none. (see below)
But this happens only spuriously...calling the single test seems to make the frequency of failure lower, while running all "rpm"
tests makes it occur more often (can't back this up with data right now, just a first impression).

Are you just talking about the fact that there are too many releases listed

I can fix that.

Hi Gary,

I think we should try to get rid of the News section at the top of the main
page in general. There will always be the danger of the news items pushing down
the rest...if we leave it at its current place.

Maybe we can use the left margin (similar to the right menu) to display the
latest three News items in a somewhat smaller font? Just as an idea...

I guess we should collect some feedback first: What do other people/devs say
about the ¨new¨ SCons webpage? Is this a good direction to go, assuming that we
adapt some basic style things like the colours of headings, for example?

Remember, background of the whole ¨Pelican¨ endeavour was to be able to offer
Atom/RSS feeds to users.

We should also test how the HTML docs display under the Pelican stylesheets, or
would these stay separate?

 I see two potential issues:
 1. WhereIs('rpm') vs WhereIs('rpmbuild'); those two processes have
been split out for a very long time.
 2. If rpm_build_root is not unique then it could conflict with the
 other rpmbuild tests.

I tried running all the rpm tests with -j6 in a loop; again there were
no errors, so I don't know for sure. Do you get a stack
 trace or something?

Re: [Scons-dev] SCons webpage...

2015-08-07 Thread Gary Oberbrunner
The top menu obscures the top of each page, I guess that's what you mean by
the over-wide top menu. With that fixed, it looks like it would be able to
functionally replace the current version. A bit of styling and color might
be nice, with the brick logo etc.? But otherwise I think it's promising.
It looks good on mobile too (other than again the top menu obscuring the
text), with a hamburger menu to select the different pages. Responsive
design and all that modernity.

Looks like the order changed in which the children are detected. This usually happens with files that get generated by Builders, but
here the SConstruct and main.c are written by the test harness...so they exist right from the start.
Could it be that the created *.tar.gz and *.rpm files play a role here? If one of them isn't completely written to disk when the
"update" run is started, this could make a difference perhaps (I'm grasping at straws here).

My guess is this has something to do with the rpm packaging builder
(Tool/packaging/rpm.py). It's probably getting a list of files or nodes,
and not sorting them. os.listdir(), for instance, "returns path elements
in an arbitrary order". Maybe something in that builder just needs to sort
them before use.

It is a very big step in polishing your original design though. I like it.

Thoughts and/or formatting issues:

   1. I would put references under documentation so that we don't have a
menu item with only 1 entry.
   2. What happened to the feed on the right-hand side!! I miss it already
and we didn't even have it yet ;(
   3. The downloads page has lots of macros that weren't filled in
   correctly.
   4. The layout seems to be 800x600 compliant? Can we support wide screen?
   5. Consider adding a link for SCons open hub on the right? (nitpicking)

1. I would put references under documentation so that we don't have

Can you try another browser on your system?
Or do a full reload of the page? (Often shift - reload)

Seems that the twitter feed missing was related to my add block. The
coloring for the twitter feed is messed up though. Might be related to my
custom colors, but the feed is dark gray with black font.

Page width is still an issue.

Attached is the page source as acquired from firefox. Not sure if any of
it is generated, so it might be useful?

Yes.. per my original email downloads page isn't right yet.

  1. The layout seems to be 800x600 compliant? Can we support wide screen?

It's responsive design and will reflow the page to fit (pretty much) any size
screen.

I'm not sure its working right; the right/left side of my browser are
completely empty.

Do you have javascript turned off?

  1. Consider adding a link for SCons open hub on the right? (nitpicking)

Good idea. Any other similar sites we should link to?

[Scons-dev] Patch for potential new debug option

2015-08-07 Thread William Blevins
Here is a patch for dumping build environments via the command-line.

I couldn't ever figure out a good way to get only explicitly lister targets
(non-default commandline targets). It will essentially print the
node.get_env().Dump() for all targets with a build_env defined.

I could potentially change it from "--debug=envdump" to something like
"--envdump=" so that it could print a particular variable rather
than the whole env.

Does this interest anyone or waste of chars?
