Re: [Scottish] Amazon albums?
My understanding is that those files are not audio files. They are used by the downloader to get the mp3s from the Amazon mp3 store. I don't know of any way to get at the mp3 files other than using the Amazon client to pull them. -- Matt On Sat, Apr 25, 2009 at 11:27 PM, Colin McKinnon colin.mckin...@ntlworld.com wrote: Hi all, Does anybody know if there's anything other than amazonMP3 which will open .amz files. Despite what it says in the Amazon MP3 faq: What does DRM-free mean? Digital Rights Management or DRM commonly refers to software that is designed to control or limit how a file can be played, copied, downloaded, shared, or accessed. DRM-free means that the MP3 files you purchase from Amazon.com do not contain any software that will restrict your use of the file. They don't seem to publish any details of the file format - and the only way to buy albums is by using their binary only program. Since they have at least gone to the trouble of porting the program to Linux (and producing a Fedora9 package - I'm currently running Fedora 9) I was **even** prepared to use it, but trying to install it turned up lots of missing dependencies - it seems I'd at least need to install a large part of Gnome to get it working. Re: [Scottish] PPPoE vs PPPoA
In my understanding, PPPoE is the newer, more flexible protocol...as it allows more detailed AAA through the ISPs RADIUS infrastructure. But there are no benefits to the end ISP user AFAIK. The other options there, as you'll find, define the topology of your connection (do you want the DSL modem to also function as a router with a management address, or do you want the modem to simply act as a bridge so that you can perform the PPPx authentication at another device, etc.). Assuming they were all available (I have no idea, I'm using Lumison through work atm) which would be the best to go for and why? (Don't worry, I'm going to have a look myself right now as well - just wanted some opinions) I always thought PPPoA was better than PPPoE, but I have no idea why I thought that.
