If you're happy adminstering the system yourself I've been very impressed
with Linode.com. Cheap virtual servers with decent specs and great admin
panel including a nice little web-based terminal app.

I usually recommend Be (bethere.co.uk) if you can get their service at your
exchange. They're excellent for gaming (and will enable a special gaming
'profile' on your line on request), and very reasonably priced with no
throttling or bandwidth limits. My only minor quibble is that their call
centre is in Bulgaria and everyone there sounds like Dracula.

I remember as a kid poring over copies of Micro User and gazing longingly
at the BBC Master Compact. I was fairly certain at that point that it was
the sort of computer we'd all be using in the future. I never got one. I
can't get to the Southside of Glasgow. All my dreams are shattered :-P

The word 'yes' springs immediately to mind, if it's for sale!

I'd actually been thinking of getting one for my kids so they could play
around with BASIC...

Wow, I'm potentially swimming in Masters. Thanks to everyone for offers of
machines and carriage thereof. I think I'm right in thinking that Mr
Rimron's non-Compact might be the best bet, as it's the one that actually
works? I'm not sure my DIY skills stretch to replacing disk controllers...

Hahaha, that's marvellous :-)
