[sdre-l]: [sdre-l] a few things

1999-12-01 Thread Dravis

Did anyone end up finding out if that actually was Jeremy who posted the
review of the live disc at amazon.com?

Also is there anyone on this list that actually doesn't like all these "emo"
bands? I've given many bands a listen and most of what i hear is just
pitiful. It is kind of sad that sdre gets assosiated with some of this
stuff.

For those of you familliar with The Promise Ring maybe you can help me out
with this next question. I borrowed "30 degrees everywhere" from a friend
of mine. The first song (which i forget the name of) was actually pretty
good. The second song, "Red Paint" was also pretty good. There was one
other song i think it was #8 that i kind of liked. All the other songs
sounded the same as song #1.
Anyways my question is:

In the lyrics to "Red Paint" the singer says, "to to two cherry cokes"
Someone want to explain to me what the hell that is supposed to mean? I was
listening to it and thought to myself, "wtf? did he just say 'two cherry
cokes?' " So i whipped out the lyrics and sure enough

Some other bands I have heard that are supposedly "emo" whatever the hell
that is are: Karate, Jimmy Eat world, The Get up Kids, Braid, Built to
spill, Rainer Maria (except the song Breakfast for Champions that song is
great), Cap n Jazz, The Crownhate Ruin, Piebald, Sweep the leg Johnny
they are all awful. I know its just my opinion and i will prolly get flamed
for it but whatever. The music is incredibly boring (actually the bassist
for Karate fucking rules) and the lyrics don't do anything for me.

On a more positive note, there are some bands that may or may not be
considered "emo" that i'm actually quite fond of.

Burning Airlines (i guess these guys are or were on the bill with Promise
Ring and The Dismemberment Plan?)

Modest Mouse (incredible band)

Jets to Brazil ( i dunno if these guys are considered "emo" or not, fuck I
just call of this stuff rock music.

Enough ranting for now.

Subject: [sdre-l]: Nate

Okay, I've been reading all these Foo Fighters reviews since their new disc
came out, and my friend went to three of their shows and chatted a bit with
the band each time; in the two interviews I've read, Nate says about three
words, the same amount he said at the concerts. Question: was Nate this
softspoken in SDRE, or is it a "popularity" thing?

[sdre-l]: Braid broke up??????

1999-12-01 Thread Matt Caron

Alright I was reading the usual 15 SDRE emails and I noticed someone said
Braid was defunct. Please tell me it isn't true, I love Braid. They are
really good. If anyone can email me and tell me more about this I would
really appreciate it. Also I caught The Get Up Kids in St. Pete Fl and I
agree about the crowd. They were rude, moshing broke out a bunch, and I was
next to this really sweaty fat guy that kept rubbing all over me, needless
to say I showered when I got home, but regardless The Get Up Kids have an
awesome live show. I loved it, even got some pictures, none came out to
well, but if someone wants one of the pics then email me and I'll send you
the OK ones. Damn, I think I just wrote an entire letter to the SDRE
mailing list and didn't mention them once, oh well, Sunny Day kicks ass, I
thought I had lost my diary album and I trashed my room trying to find it,
but I found it so its all good. Everyone enjoy life, its not long enough to
stress,

Re: [sdre-l]: sdre ebay activity :(

1999-12-01 Thread Paul Mazurkiewicz

I read Jenn's email to the list about boots today. I have to say I
wholeheartedly agree with her on pretty much every point she makes. That's
why I think some bands are starting to let fans tape the shows for their
own personal use, without harassing people at the venue's entrance. I,
personally, am not a huge fan of live CDs/bootlegs (I'll admit, I have
yet to buy the SDRE live) because there's so much more to a live
performance than the music. Don't get me wrong, the music drives the
entire atmosphere...but there's something to be said for standing there
and having your mind blown away by an incredible artist. As for comments
made about shoving and moshing that goes on shows, I can understand
people's gripes, but you have to understand that everyone wants to enjoy
the music in the own fashion. Just because someone's moshing doesn't mean
that they're some sort of testostorone-monkey; music affects everyone
differently. I also listen to metal, and I go to a lot of metal shows. If
the crowd isn't moving around at metal shows, then you can tell the band
is not moving the crowd the way they should. If you ever go to a Fear
Factory show, even the people (self often included) who stand to the side
so as to avoid getting moshed very rarely stand still. They move around
and get into the music. Obivously, SDRE or similiar artists don't inflict
the same emotion on their listeners, so maybe moshing is little ridicilous
at these shows...but everyone should enjoy themselves. That's what is
important. These comments seem to be in line with a certain degree of
elitism that I've noticed on this list to begin with, so they don't shock
me. Wake up people, you're no better for the music you listen to. It may
make your life better, but it's doesn't make you any better. I know this
doesn't apply to all of us, but there are some who it does apply to. Oh
well, to end this on an up note, I'd like to say I'm psyched, cause I'm
going to two shows this week: Fountains of Wayne, at the Rutgers College
Student Center, and fugazi at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia...so
see you all round.

Later,
Paul

P.S. I know you all hate me know, that's okay ;)

1999-12-01 Thread don't be fooled by my sweet demeanor, baby...

SDRE is featured in the current issue of the "stop breathing" mag which is
