Hey, here is my two cents. Its like this: When you are at a show, you
probably love the band a lot. So any song they play will usually make you
happy. But then there are those people there who only know the song on the
radio. And while Sunny Day wasn't ever really big, "Seven" was the closest
they had to a hit. So other people view the person as trendy, and just there
to hear the hit song. I was at an Elliot Smith show and people were yelling
at this guy who requested a song off of the Good Will Hunting soundtrack.
Basically, if you yell out the popular song, you don't really like the band,
you just like the cool song. I'm sure its not as true with Sunny Day as it is
true with say, someone buying Harvey Danger. If someone where to have bought
a Harvey Danger CD, and went to see them in concert, and they didn't play
that "I'm no sick, but I'm not well" song, people would feel cheated. Its
the same with some Sunny Day fans, Seven is undoubtedly the best song to
them, most likely because it was the first they heard. I was lucky enough to
have gotten into Sunny Day through "In Circles", and they always play that.
So that's how I look at it. "Seven" equals Sunny Day's closest thing to a
"hit", if that's what you want to hear, people think you are trendy. And as
much as I want to be against that, I have that resentment somewhere in my
heart as well. "Red Elephant" is my fave song, not cause its obscure, but it
just is. Some people will only listen to "8" on the Pink CD, and likewise,
they would be scolded at a show or on this list. That's how I look at it, its
a sad world sometime I guess.
