RE: comcast blocking ipsec traffic?

2003-08-14 Thread Fenkner, Mark
I'm connected via IPSec through Comcast right now so it must be a regional
thing. Darn, I really hope they don't block it because I don't want to pay
for the business service for occasional VPN use.

Has any else noticed that Comcast seems to have
started to block ipsec traffic this morning around
10AM EDT? A number of our home VPN users experienced
complete loss of connectivity around this time. I just
wanted to see if anyone else noticed the same behavior
today... We just changed our configuration to work
around the problem.

Comcast used to have an AUP that banned VPN traffic on
their home service. Have they ever rescinded that?

RE: comcast blocking ipsec traffic?

2003-08-14 Thread DeGennaro, Gregory
Have them reset your modem hardware. We experience this problem and I had
the tech support team tell Comcast to hard reset the modem through the
central office or neighborhood concentrator.

In the past, PPOE also interfered with IPsec.

I did notice that. My question is what did you do to your configuration to
make it work. I have had the problem all day with netscreen and have not
come up with a solution.

We are using IPsec over Comcast. If you are having a recent problem, you
may need to have them reset your modem from the Central Office or through
the Neighborhood concentrator.

Last I heard (heard from comcast) is that they do not block vpn traffic
but do monitor. If you do use it all the time, they request that you
purchase the business service. Not sure what they will do if you
refuse.

I'm using a VPN tunnel in the Baltimore/WDC area (both source and
destination in the same area) and have not had any problems with
connectivity today (8/12/03). It's been very smooth all day.

Just a followup on this for the list... I don't know
about the AUP. Tough for me to tell what our end users
have agreed to when they signed up with Comcast (if
they did since many are captive former AT&T Broadband
customers.)

We use the Cisco VPN and we were able to configure to
run over UDP.

I've had many problems with Comcast, my connection has been lagging
horribly and is dropped frequently. I've contacted customer service and
supposedly they "improved connection quality". I'd recommend if you have
the option to go with another ISP.
