[Server-devel] ds-backup - help with a trial happening right now

2008-08-11 Thread greebo
Hi all,

I am in the middle of a largish trial, 500 children, and wanted to get the
backup going. Michael Stone was great to help me understand where ds-backup
is up to and I'm keen to install, test and contribute to the ds-backup
project however I'm rolling out 703 imaged laptops as we need them to the
stable for this deploymeent and apparently the software doesn't work on
703.

Can anyone help me out with this?

The trial is the first 100% saturation in the world, and as I am leaving in
2 days I was hoping to have it fairly done by the time I leave, hwoever I
can always return if necessary or work with the local people to make
updates.

I'm on the IRC #olpc and #sugar channels on freenode as email here is
really hard/slow.

Many thanks!
Pia Waugh

Good point. In any case, there's better hope on devel@ where people
know more about the XO sw :-)

So copying devel@ - in a nutshell, Pia is in a deployment in Niue, and
asking for help backporting ds-backup-client to 703.

the internals of the datastore on the laptop
(datastore is the back-end of the journal) need an update that has not
been tested on 703.

I believe that may be the only update made to the DS since 703 and I
doubt it depends on anything but a JSON library.

To expand on that, and for anyone keen on trying, you'll need 703 plus...

 - simplejson (ISTR it's not packaged for F6, but a backport is possible)

 - datastore v8.2 or newer - this is the risky change, there is a
small chance that other parts of Sugar/Journal act up with it.

 - ds-backup-client 0.7

cheers,
