I've been told that a key benefit of Khan Academy is the tools for individual monitoring of student progress. They seem to offer the chance to give individually targeted interventions to each student based on their personal needs. Apparently a lot of 'later' maths difficulties have been shown to start with gaps in foundation concepts. If informatics built into the teaching platform can pinpoint those gaps for each student, that should have much the same effect as smaller class sizes.
