Re: SDparts in short supply

2004-07-13 Thread David Salamone
GLH and GLHS parts are in short supply and most are NS1 and NS3 (NS3
apparently means discontinued because of low demand. these are parts that
were intended to be produced indefinitely unlike an NS1 part)

For that matter most any of the performance cars of the Shelby Dodge era.
The older is is the worse it gets. The newest L body is now 17 years old.
Some of the earliest are over 20 years old and even the most carefully
protected, garage kept, one owner cars are starting to show age and wear out
certain parts.

I'm currently restoring GLHS #087. and its been a bugger getting the
simplest parts. like door window wiper seals, hell, any seals for that
matter. trim, body pieces, moldings, etc.

Being that pieces like this don't effect mechanical operation of a vehicle
there are only a limited amount of extra pieces produced. I've been trying
to explain for a long time to stock up on consumable parts that could be
damaged from an accident (airdams, noses, rust free fenders hoods, etc)
plus vehicle specific items that wear out from repeated use or age (rubber
seals, weatherstripping plastic moulding pieces). Every passing year there
are fewer cars from our era available in salvage yards.

I ordered the last few parts in the COUNTRY a few weeks ago and it took my
local guy a week to track them down. one came from a dealer in alabama,
one
 in colorado. etc.

I've ordered the last available one of numerous Shelby parts in the past and
even at dealer price they can still be less expensive that a re-sellers
price due to rarity.

PLEASE folks. If you know that a car is heading to the crusher, or is
available for parts, try your best to make them available. consider really
stripping a car bare before letting it go. it could really help people
like
me. all of us are now in the same boat. god forbid you get into an
accident, as I don't know where you will be getting your parts.

Same goes for what you see at a local salvage yard (even if you can't
personally use it) if it's a clean, hard to find part either grab it up
before it gets crushed or at least quickly pass it on to someone else who
needs it. You may be able to use it for trading.

I still can't find an airdam in good condition.

I can relate, I'm still looking for an 87-88 CSX grille in decent shape or
at least one that only has damage to the driver side headlite area (so I can
combine my old one with it).

SD WTB stock steering wheel from 1988 daytona

2004-07-13 Thread Moparmat2000
hi all
i am looking for a factory steering wheel for an 88 dodge daytona, or from an
89 dodge daytona without airbag. this is the wheel with 3 spokes, and has the
contoured grip on either side of the rim. i need it in a certain color. the
FC5 blue. this is like a blue gray color, not the charcoal color. if i can get
a leather wrap wheel with good leather thats great. if not i will take a
standard vinyl wrapped wheel as long as its in nice shape and not gummy and sticky
and worn from being in a smokers car. i think these wheels are standard in
dodge shadows these years too. i dunno if the dodge shadows used this color
though. anybody got one or can get one they would like to sell me??i am not
interested in having to recolor a different color wheel otherwise i would just get
one at my local junkyard and redye it myself.
thanks
mat

SD Fuel pump part 2

2004-07-13 Thread Josh Wiechman
Ok, I got it home and pulled 1 code, 36 (wastegate soloenoid). That has
nothing to do with it not starting. I checked the fuel rail for pressure,
gas squirted out of the nozzle. I depleted the pressure and tried to start
it again. No dice, check the fuel rail for pressure again, it squirted fuel
again. I then thought my timing belt looked unhealthy last time I checked
it.So, I pulled the timing belt cover and find half of it shredded and the
other have barely hanging on to the cam gear.
I believe it jumped time and wont start. Does this make sense? I am now
going to go get a new timing belt and put it on. Question is how do I time
my car if it wont start? Sorry for my ignorance, I am quite the noob when it
comes to any car. Thanks for your input.

RE: SD Headlights in '87 Z

2004-07-13 Thread Brian Schulteis
Pull the module out of the dash, crack the case open and remove the potting compound
from the bottom of the circuit board, if there is any. Then re-flow all the solder
joints. Be careful if it has potting compound, it's toxic. Clean your hands after
dealing with the board. I did this to my headlight controller when I first got my
Daytona, still works, been something like 10 months now. Much cheaper than replacing
it.
