I'm pretty sure it's the same book.

Do any of you know what ATSG manual is for the a413 trannies? I looked
on the ATSG website, but all they have is a 404-670 book. Thanks.

RE: SD Shocking problem with new rebuild

2005-03-17 Thread Saxon, Howard (PTC - Auburn Hills)
First off Jason, sorry to hear about the problem, I know it's frustrating.
I'm no pro as I've only rebuilt 1 engine in my life but I have to say that I
don't think detonation will do that to the rod bearings - it usually drills
holes in pistons first. Also, when you say crushed, do you mean worn?
I'm assuming so if you say that you can see copper. Only 2 things come to
my mind for this problem. Either the bearings are getting improper
lubrication somehow, or the rod bearing journals are out of round, either in
the rod I.D. or on the crank's O.D. I think 150 psi on a compression test
is fine for a fresh rebuild.

Re: SD Turbo to Manifold Nuts

2004-11-23 Thread Saxon, Howard (PTC - Auburn Hills)
They are probably M8 x 1.25. You will want to use as high of a grade of nut
as possible. Also, if you can get a tall nut, such as a machine set-up
nut, that would be the best bet. Also, while you're at it, don't forget to
use some high temp, anti-seize compound.

RE: SD Alternator Options for 2.2 Turbo's 136 amps.

2004-11-05 Thread Saxon, Howard (PTC - Auburn Hills)
I'm not sure if this helps or not but I own a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee with
the 5.2 and when I added an electric fan, the draw was so great that it
started to discharge my battery! A friend of mine said that the viper
spec alternator is a direct bolt on and produces much more amps. If that's
the case, then with the same spacer you mentioned, maybe a more power
alternator exists. Any way for anyone to check?

---original
message-
Here you are.
Factory replacement alternator for our 2.2 and 2.5's is the following
numbers
Lester Number (any place should know what that means)
13280, 13304, 13308, 13313
That is 120 amp and a direct bolt in replacement.
This alternator has an 8mm hole

To get the 136 amp you have to get Lester Number 13742
The only change you will need to make is you have to get a shim to go inside
the mounting ear.
(That part is discontinued, but I might have a guy make a few)
This alternator has an 11mm hole

The 136 Amp alternator can be found in the following vehicles:
1997-1998 Dodge SUV, TRUCKS, VANS with 3.9, 5.2, 5.9, 8.0 engines.
1997-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.2, 5.9

SD Bolting down the thrust bearing on a turbo?

2004-09-30 Thread Saxon, Howard (PTC - Auburn Hills)
Hello all. A friend of mine said that he's heard of guys drilling and
tapping the turbo's bearing housing to literally fasten the thrust bearing
to the bearing housing so there is no movement. Has anyone heard of this
and if so, what's involved? By that I mean do I just remove the existing
pins and tap those holes or do you have to drill new one's and for what size
screw?
thanx,
Howard
