Re: SD '86 GLHS Title issue
Our MVA changed my '87 GLHS from Shelby to Dodge (after I had owned it for 10 years !) and they kept telling me ( for 30 minutes) that was right until I had them pull the MSO. They changed it back to Shelby. Here's an strange story to show how screwed up the system can be. A good friend of mine from here in Jacksonville bought his 1987 GLHS Charger #0664 when it was new and the state of Florida in it's wisdom saw the word Shelby when setting up the paperwork and ended up listed the make as Ford on his title. He used to drive the SAAC Cobra Mustangs guys crazy when he'd enter it in their events. SD '86 GLHS Title issue
In most (if not all) states, how a car is titled (Dodge or Shelby) is determined by only one document, the MSO (Manufacturer's Statement of Origin). The Department of Motor Vehicles in your state will have this on file. If the manufacturer is listed as Dodge, it's titled as a Dodge. Shelby Automobiles was not officially recognized as a manufacturer until after the Omni GLHS's were sold so the GLHS Chargers were the first cars titled as Shelbys. I know that here in Maryland there is no legal way around that. The MSO says what it says and that's it. You can check it out in your state but I'm pretty sure you won't get an '86 GLHS titled as a Shelby unless someone misses it and it sneaks through, but even then it will probably be corrected when you renew the registration. Our MVA changed my '87 GLHS from Shelby to Dodge (after I had owned it for 10 years !) and they kept telling me ( for 30 minutes) that was right until I had them pull the MSO. They changed it back to Shelby. No apology. Let us know what happens. Steve Shock SDAC Membership Coordinator 1986-1991 ---REMOVE-FOOTER-WHEN-REPLYING Questions?
