Re: SD> Has anyone ever shipped GLH sideskirts and front air dam?

2005-06-20 Thread Victor Lehtinen
I shipped a GLH front airdam from Connecticut to the
midwest via UPS.
It cost $96.00 United Parcel Service.
I constructed my own cardboard box with $10 worth of
clear package tape.
The sideskirts were much cheaper to ship.

Re: SD> Has anyone ever shipped GLH sideskirts and front air dam?

2005-06-20 Thread Eric .
I see that my reply only went to howard, so I'll post up my experience
here for all to read:
Ship Greyhound! Once something goes over 60" FedEx basically doubles
or triples the charge. Plug in a 59" long package, a 60" long package
and a 61" long package in their rate calculator, you'll see! I just
shiped a rear bumper (62x14x28) from FL to CA on Greyhound for $32!

I also recently shipped a header panel and lower valance from a
Thunderbird Turbo Coupr for $38 from FL to DC, FedEx wanted $210,
because f it's size. Greyhound allows up to 84" one direction, ad
100lbs per delivery. I've shipped a complete interior via Greyhound
for VERY cheap.

2005-06-20 Thread Mullikin, Stefan P
Keep in mind that GLH parts are extremely flexible and relatively light
weight, so I think that you shouldn't nee much for shipping materials
except a simple box and some bubble wrap.

Greyhound has a decent freight service. UPS, FedEx, USPS and DHL all
have size and weight limits.

When I was shipping Shadow bumper covers I discovered large bulky
objects can be a challenge to ship affordably. First off use Fed Ex and
go directly to their main location if at all possible. They're going to
measure it via a limit of a certain amount of cubic inches (side x width
x height, etc).

You'll have no room to spare on these so boxing them up is not an
option.
What you do to keep the size to a minimum is to cover them in bubble
wrap from end to end. You can buy a roll of the small bubble stuff at
Office Depot along with the clear packaging tape. You may have to ship
the sides & front separate to meet the size criteria. Also if you go
during a busy day (with lots of people in line) they're less likely to
notice (or care) if it's slightly oversize.
