Re: SD> Mouse smells in stored car.

2006-04-05 Thread colwell82
back in 98 when I got my first 86 turbo Z which had been in a field for 2
years before I got it, it was infested. I stripped the interior and it still
smelled, even with the interior out. the mice had gotten behind the dash and
into the air vents. I pulled the instrument cluster out last summer to check
another 86 turbo Z's to see if it worked and found more nests in there, so be
ready to take everything apart.

I pulled a Shelby Charger from a field that had mice in it. I steam
cleaned, simple green'd, you name it, but there was still that
"smell" especially on hot days. yuck.
So one afternoon I went nuts and dismantled the interior and found
a few little nests behind the plastic trim which were the root
cause. Once those were gone it was fine, but the moral of the story
is, be prepared for a THOROUGH cleaning!!
The fun part about those mice was the nest with a dead one getting
shot out the tailpipe after firing the car up after being dormant
for two years... LOL

Re: SD> Mouse smells in stored car.

2006-04-05 Thread Mike Fisher
I had the same problem with mine. I completely stripped out the
interior, dash, headliner, everything, and took it to the car wash and
power washed it. Then I steam cleaned the carpets and seats, cleaned
all the airbox parts out, and simple greened everything. The worst part
was in the frame rails under the doors. They were completely plugged up
with mouse crap and such. I had to stick the power washer in from the
kick panel holes and the speaker hole areas to get water in, and pulled
all the plugs out from underneath. It was a mess to say the least. And
yes, after I got it fired back up, it blew all kinds of mouse crap out
of the exhaust for at least two days... Now I have Shelby Lancer #387
to do that same thing with this summer. :(

Hi all,

Anyone have a sure fire way to kill the smell of mice that were
in a car. I bought my GLHS and it had mice at one time or
another. I'm about to gut the car and do a thorough cleaning,
but want to make sure I kill the smell completely. Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: SD> Mouse smells in stored car.

2006-04-05 Thread Holmes
Take two cups of fresh ground coffee, put 'em in a fry
pan, and heat 'em up until they start to smell nice.
Don't scorch them - just get them real hot. Place the
pan of hot grounds in the car on a thick towel to
avoid burns and leave overnight with the car closed up
tight.

You'll be amazed at what those grounds will absorb.

This is courtesy of the old column by "Hints by
Heloise " and served me well when I had a beef roast
rot in my CSX after it had fallen from a grocery bag.

Smelled like death in that car and the hot grounds
fixed it completely.

Regards,

Holmes
