SD> 5 Speed Tramsmission Fluid
Hi Cliff: speaking of 5 speeds, I have a 87 Shelby Z bought used with a wonderful shifting 5 speed. Can't leave well enough alone would like to change the tranny fluid as I am doing with all the other fluids. Am I going to use 5W-30 engine oil or Redline MTL 70W80? All the opinions I've seen seem to be 50/50 for either one Thanks Howard Cunning > > Message: 1 > Date: Wed, 4 Jun 2008 13:05:00 EDT > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: SD> NOS TIII, '86 GLHS parts, New Performance parts & Tons of > used TIII & GLHS items > To: shelbydodge@imagilist.com > Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" > > Hi all, > A phone call a few weeks ago lead me on a trip to a big stash of turbo > Dodge > and Shelby parts. I'd use straight 5W-30. 5w 30 conventional valvoline! Its the best stuff there is for these transmissions. ___REMOVE-FOOTER-WHEN-REPLYING_ ShelbyDodge mailing list ShelbyDodge@imagilist.com http://www.imagilist.com/mailman/listinfo/shelbydodge
Re: SD> 5 Speed Tramsmission Fluid
Howard, Either is a good choice. The 5w30 motor oil will work if your going to change it a lot and the Redline MTL is a good long term addition with better additives for the life of the transmission. Don't use a synthetic motor oil like Mobil 1 and such as it's not compatible with the syncro operation of the transmission and can cause grinding. Napa oil is also made by valvoline... 5w30 is the best and cheapest choice. The only other good option that I have used is redline MTL (which is made for manual transmissions) but it will cost 4x more. -Rich On Sun, 8 Jun 2008, Paul T.
