I have 3G on Airtel on my Galaxy Note.

No problems.

Other than that the battery life of the damn thing goes down from ~30 hours
on 2G+ Wi Fi to about 16 hrs on 3G + Wi fi.

Airtel 3G on my wife's older E71 is quite good, and has coverage even in
random district towns in south tamil nadu.

Vodafone 3g on my bb bold works great in chennai and bangalore, say - but
once you're out of the big cities they're horrible

My impression of airtel's broadband and 3G services is sort of like
the old saw about democracy: they're the worst service provider --
except for all of the others.

That said, 3G mostly works for me here in Bangalore: coverage is fine
at home, at work and most of the places in between. Call drops aren't
frequent enough to be annoying. The speed is plenty fast for my usage
patterns: mostly mail and FB, some general web browsing and the
occasional youtube video.

In Gurgaon, coverage was about 80% over 6 months, and call drops about 9%. And
this is largely at home.

Airtel's by no means great, but after 4 months in Goa, I'm missing them. Idea
has no clue and overcharges, BSNL no network.

Folks,
I want to shift to 3G on my Galaxy Note. How has the 3G experience been, on
this forum? I've had mixed views from my colleagues at work. Some say that
the speed isn't remarkably better; others say that they experience
call-drops more frequently. Given that we all have wi-fi now at office and
home, is it really worth shifting. Can't change from Airtel due to company
wide discounted plans etc.
Thanks, Adit.

At Pune it is nothing worth raving about. The coverage is a bit spotty
and, call drops are routine unless you force the handset to use 2G
networks when not using data. Airtel couldn't care less about
improving things as far as I can figure out.
