Re: [silk] URGENT: Dinner tonight at 8:30, not 7PM!
The meeting was great fun, and I enjoyed meeting all the Silk-listers I hadn't met before enormously. The photographs have been digitally altered, though, to make people look fat. I shall summarise highlights for those who could not make it. 1] Cory explained how you get free heroin in England if you get someone pregnant. 2] Vinit told us about his fetish for trains, which is why he keeps coming to Bombay all the time. 3] Devdas confessed his fetish for walking. Even though he lives in Borivali, he gets off at Kandivali and walks home, which takes him about seven hours. 4] Supriya told us about her fetish for sexist writing, and why she likes the magic realists for that reason. 5] We discussed why chawls are like college hostels. 6] The second round of rotis came late. There. Now you all can also talk about the Mumbai Silk-Meet as if you were there. -- Amit Varma http://www.indiauncut.com

Re: [silk] URGENT: Dinner tonight at 8:30, not 7PM!
Deepa, This is indeed what they have named this and every other restaurant in the chain [I presume there is a chain, since they have an outlet even in Hyderabad] after; at various points during dinnertime you will see servers walking around with platters heated by tiny braziers attached underneath, as well as hookahs. Other lighting is negligible. *g* The stairs are unimprovable on grounds of dimness, dankness and winding slipperiness also. A good time was had by all. -- or so I hope; Mumbaikars are as fond of talking about trains as others are of weather, so at some point of time the conversation picked up on train travel in the city and only occasionally veered off-track thence. I am not sure this was what Cory was expecting to spend much of dinner mulling over. I think Devdas has photos. The food was plentiful. Y'all should have been there. Supriya.
