 That
would mean it has a solubility greater than .89 ppm. See #4. However they

According to http://www.silver-colloids.com/Papers/Solubility_Products.PDF
the
solubility of silver hydroxide is 13.3 ppm, which is what we often quote
as the
stable limit for ionic silver on this list. I feel this support the
notion that
the silver in EIS is predominately silver hydroxide.

http://www.northland.cc.mn.us/Chemistry/solubility_products.htm lists silver
hydroxide as having a solubility (Ksp) of 2.0X10-8, compared with
1.6X10-10 for
silver chloride. That would make silver hydroxide soluble than silver
chloride,
but the exact difference would depend on the stoichiometry of the
precipitant.

http://home.snu.edu/dept/chemistry/syllabi/ARCHIVES/CHEM1224/LABEXP~1/SILVE
R~1.PDF
shows the solubility Ksp of silver hydroxide to be 2.0 X 10-8 and silver
chloride
to be 1.8 X 10-10 which is close to what the above reference shows it.

I feel these support the notion that the silver in EIS is predominately
silver
hydroxide which has a low solubility, but one that is sufficient for
typically
EIS.

Hi folks,

After mentioning the OT list a couple of times lately I've seen several

The instructions for BOTH lists are to be found at...

That address is among the helpful information in the footer at the
bottom of this and every list message.

That said, I'll save y'all the time by saying that, in order to
subscribe to the OT list to get it in e-mail, send your request with
the word subscribe in the SUBJECT: field to this address:

Again, for those who just want to dip into it occasionally, you can
look into the archives, the address for which is also in the message

have posting priveleges on the OT list.

I hope that helps. Please contact me any time you need to do something

ECJ ADVOCATE GENERAL DESCRIBES VITAMIN AND MINERAL BAN AS TRANSPARENT
AS A BLACK BOX
UK government decides not to attend court hearing to make its objections

PRESS RELEASE
For immediate release 25 January 2005

EUROPEAN COURT OF JUSTICE ADVOCATE GENERAL DESCRIBES VITAMIN AND MINERAL
BAN AS TRANSPARENT AS A BLACK BOX
UK GOVERNMENT DECIDES NOT TO ATTEND COURT HEARING TO MAKE ITS OBJECTIONS
TO THE CHALLENGE
The Alliance for Natural Health today presented its oral submission to
the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg in its landmark case
challenging the ban in the EU Food Supplements Directive on 75% of
vitamin and mineral forms currently sold in the EU market.

Opposing oral submissions were made by the European Commission, the
Council of Ministers, the European Parliament and only one EU Member
State, Greece.

UK Government does not present its objections to the challenge.
Interestingly, neither the UK government nor Portugal attended to
present oral arguments despite having filed Written Observations in the
case. This means that none of the major EU countries felt the need to
oppose the ANH's application for a declaration that the ban in the
Directive was unlawful.

David Hinde Solicitor and ANH Legal Director said:

Given the vigour with which the UK government resisted this application
at the Judicial Review stage, it was extraordinary it did not now think
the issue sufficiently important to warrant being represented at the ECJ
to make oral submissions. The question inevitably arises whether this
signifies a change of attitude on their part and a retreat from their
previously bullish position about the legality of the Directive.
Paul Lasok QC, a world leading expert on EU law, representing the ANH
opened the proceedings and systematically undermined the legal and
scientific basis of the Directive, highlighting contradictions between
various arguments put forward by the key bodies involved in developing
the Directive, namely the European Commission, the Council of Ministers
and the European Parliament.

When asked by Judge Lenaerts as to the origin of the positive list which
appeared to have been derived from an old list produced by the European
Commission, and so omitted a vast array of nutrients that can normally
be found in food, Mr Lasok responded:

The list was put together without adding, without subtracting and
without thinking.
Advocate General Geelhoed, the senior judge at today's hearing, appeared
to be baffled by the procedure for adding nutrients to the positive
list, which he described:

As transparent as a black box.
Dr Robert Verkerk, executive director of the ANH said after the hearing:

It was remarkable that the vast majority of points that we had gone to
great length to show the Court were not countered in any effective way
by the opposing parties. The Commission, the Council and the Parliament
were not able to give any adequate scientific explanations for why so
many forms of vitamins and minerals that naturally occur in foods could
be banned across the EU.
Final judgement expected in June 2005
The Advocate General announced that he would deliver his opinion on 5
April 2005, while the Court is expected to give its judgment in June,
shortly before the ban would otherwise be set to come into effect on 1
August 2005.

Sorry it has taken so much time, but I had to do a good bit of research
for this reply.
You will find Frank Key's previous response (rebuttal) at:
 http://www.silver-colloids.com/misc/Ionic-response.htm
I will post the comments back to this forum, using that page as the
original document. My comments are in BOLD::
1. Everything is soluble to some
small extent, even a rock in water. The Chemical Handbook lists the
solubility of AgCl to be 0.89g/100 ml of pure water. This corresponds
to 0.89 ppm, a small enough number for every analytical book in the world
to list AgCl as insoluble.
Let's take a look at some real numbers. If we start with 5 ppm od
EIS, that is 4 ppm of ionic silver, and take an ounce of it on a stomach
that contains 3 ounces of liquid, then the result would be 1 ppm of ionic
silver. Solubility of silver chloride is over 1 ppm at body temperature,
so 100% of the ionic silver that is consumed would dissolve. I would not
call that insoluble when dealing with concentrations of a few ppm.
2. AgCl does not dissolve inside the body:
Remember, solubility means the extent to which AgCl
forms Ag+ ions. In a chloride environment, the solubility
of AgCl would be less than it would be for pure water, a result which would
be expected from Le Chatelierrsquo;s Principle.
For the equilibrium

Ag+ + Cl- AgCl (s)

Le Chatelier's Principle would state that the addition of chloride
would drive the equilibrium to the right, towards the insoluble AgCl side.
In a chloride environment, however, according to the Merck index, the amount
of Cl- in the bloodstream is about 3500 ppm, which translates to
approximately 0.1 M. Substituting this value into the above solubility
product equation, one calculates that the amount of ionic silver in the
blood cannot exceed 1.94 x 10-4 ppm. I definitely call that insoluble.
The bottom line is that ionic silver is not going to survive in a chloride
environment, but colloidal silver will
Your expert needs to go back to school. That equation is valid
only for very low concentrations of Cl ions. For the blood, which
is over .1 M it is not valid at all. Silver chloride at medium and
higher concentrations of Cl ions forms complexes (AgCl2, AgCl3, AgCl4 etc.),
which are very soluble. The correct equation for this is:
2X10^-10/[Cl] + 6.3X10^-7 + 3.4X10^-3[Cl]
where the [Cl] is the chlorine concentration in Moles, including
the dissolved AgCl. This works out to very close to .9 ppm for blood
(.145 Mole), which is coincidently almost exactly the same as it is in
pure water. With higher concentrations of the chloride ion it is even higher.
I have posted a graph from Ref #2 that shows this to a previous message
to this newsgroup. For the concentrations we are concerned with,
the left hand side "A" would be the applicable graph.
References for this are:

II of that years issues).

3. AgCl is eliminated by the kidneys, etc.

In the presence of ammonia, such as
from ammonium hydroxide, AgCl can be dissolved to form a soluble complex,
i.e.,

AgCl (s) + 2NH4OH -> Ag(NH3)2+(aq) +Cl- + 2H2O

but there is only about 0.2 to 0.8 ppm of ammonia in the blood, which
accounts for its slightly alkaline nature. The 3500
ppm of Cl- in the bloodstream is very far beyond the amount
necessary to prevent this from happening.

"Fulminating silver" ? This has nothing to do with ammonia.
A fulminate is an oxy-cyanide complex of a heavy metal. Let us hope
there is no cyanide in anyone's bloodstream.

A reducing agent will reduce silver ions to silver metal, but I cannot
imagine any set of circumstances which would cause ionic silver to be reduced
to the colloidal state.

The chlorine content does not prevent it from happening, it forms
an equilibrum such that there will be both species. But as
long as there is any of the complex present, then tollen's reaction should
be able to take place, and as the complex is used up, more of the silver
nitrate can convert to the complex even though the kinetics favors the
chloride.
The circumstance where ionic silver will reduce to the colloidal
state are very well known in the photography business. All that is
required is a developer, seed silver atom or particle, and a ph over 7.
All can be present in the blood stream (caffine for instance makes a good
developer). And if the silver is in the form of the ammonia complex, then
it should reduce with glucose, which is also in the blood stream. See Tollen's
reagent for more information on this.
As far as fulminating silver, once again your expert need to hit
his books. Silver

popular supplements already being taken by most Life Extension members.
Consumers can thus help protect themselves against the lethal dangers of
excess sugar (glucose) without having to swallow more capsules or spend
more money.

I wrote before on burning my hand with a Plasma Cutter, well it will only be
2 weeks tomorrow.
My hand is a lot better, I soaked it a couple of times in warm CS.
My finger nails and thumb nail on injured hand have turned very dark compared
to other hand.
Did I soak up some CS into hand, did the CS go right to my finger nails.
Or is some how related to burn injury.
I also constantly sprayed injury with CS.
Hand is healing a lot faster than I would have thought possible.
Any comments or insights would be appreciated.

  Hi Bob,

I can't speak for Windsor, but can speak for Toronto. The banks here are open
during the week and sat. I don't know the exact times. Short day forsure. Say
3ish?

There are 4 major banks run by the gov't Bank of Montreal, Bank of Commerce,
TD Canada Trust, And Royal Bank of Canada.

I would imagine u can buy silver coins there. All the banks sell mint. None
are open Sunday

Here is a number you can call: Bank of Montreal- 1-800-363-9992 give them a
shout see what they say.

Are Banks there open at all other than during the week.

I thought the Wife and I could visit pick up some coins and stay for Dinner.

Oh Yeah my wife loves the Casino's.

We have option of crossing at Windsor, Ferry at 2 places on St Clair river
and at Port Huron.

There is no fund. The money is taken from the pockets of the working, most
of it is pillaged on whatever, and the remaining fragment is given to the
older workers.
