Kathy, I would think that your speculation about opening something up in your sinuses is totally correct. Many people with sinus problems have areas where a crust has formed over an area of infection. Sinus infections are very hard to clear up because they occur in the midst of bone which is not highly vascularized and therefore it takes a long time for any WBCs to get there. It's not a bad thing to get that opened up and drained out as it could possibly abscess or just fester. You should see the stuff we get out of peoples sinuses in surgery. We have to wear scents over our masks. If you got sick for a couple of days from it you probably had a lot of drainage from the sinus. You might consider doing it again occasionally just to keep the area open and infection free. Before the invention of nose drops people would sniff salt water to draw fluid from the tissues into the nasal passages therefore loosening the mucous plugs etc. and clearing the congestion out. At first it makes the membranes swell but the end result is a clearing of the nares. Good luck on your sinuses.
