Does anyone have any suggestion on getting paralyzed vocal cords
working again? My daughter had thyroid cancer, and when they removed
her thyroid her vocal cords got paralyzed. I have been searching for
any alternative therapies, and have found some Chinese herbs,
homeopathic remedies, and maybe electro stimulation.

Brooks, any research in this area you are aware of.

Thanks,

Marshall

I am so sorry about your daughter's situation. I too, have thyroid
cancer, which was removed in two operations in January. I was very
fortunate to have an incredibly gifted surgeon! I told him regaining my
voice was uppermost in my mind, as I belong to four singing groups, and
music is a very important part of my life. He explained, in detail,
that the nerve which controls the vocal cords goes through (or sits
right by) the thyroid, but that he has never cut into one yet! If it
is cut or damaged, what your daughter is experiencing is the result.
You might direct her to the support group forum for thyroid cancer
patients and survivors. There she can ask a large pool of thyca
survivors if any have recovered from such a condition: ThyCa: Thyroid
Cancer Survivors' Association Support Community, also called Inspire.
