Deborah-  I shouldn't have used the word bulb, as there are infrared heat bulbs
that are light bulbs in appearance, glass globes with a filament inside.  They
may also be good sources of infrared heat but not what I have experience with,
I know nothing about them.  I get fixtures with ceramic sockets at a feed store
where they are sold for heat lamps for chickens, or at a small store selling
plumbing and lighting supplies.  Home Depot may carry them, I'm not sure.  Ones
with clamp bases are easier to position.  I have used a walker, a coat rack, or
a metal rack of some kind, to attach the fixture in a good position.  The pet
discounters site also sells good ones that validate the warranty on the ceramic
heat emitters.

*Mary Ann- the ceramic heat emitter is in the 4th category on this webpage-

http://www.petdiscounters.com/Heaters-Lamps-and-Bulbs-c26.html

It is a metal coil embedded in ceramics. I've had several for several
years and have not had one break or burn out. I buy a fixture locally
that is a metal hood with a crossbar and ceramic socket (a must because
of the heat). I try to have the crossbar in touch with my body, with
cotton cloth in between, no synthetics since they can melt if they
should contact the emitter. It is a little tricky figuring out how to
hold it where I want it. I heat the spot for as long as I can, results
have been even miraculous, as once when I had bad neck pains when barely
moving my head with numbing sensations, and I lay with the emitter over
my neck for a couple of hours, and all pain and discomfort ceased and
didn't return. I would imagine it was as though the heat relaxed the
tendons and ligaments and helped them return to a normal position.

The rib took a while to heal, 4 weeks for pain to cease and 8 weeks for
a pulling sensation to cease. I had some pain along my vertebrae too,
and that also ceased, but I've been doing some heavy yard work the last
day or so and did have some upper back pain recur so used the heat
emitter some.

Have broken the same ankle twice I would recommend 2 things... a good
acupuncturist and a good chiropractor. If the chiropractor also does
acupuncture I would make sure they were a graduate of an accredited
acupuncture school and were licensed in acupuncture as well. I would not
accept a chiropractor who as done a few hundred hours of training and
knows

nothing about Oriental Medicine diagnosing.
Best of luck.

PS: nor would I accept an MD who hasn't gone through an accredited
acupuncture school.

Yes,
DMSO (health food store item) applied topically give relief for this
type of injury almost instantaneously.

MSM taken internally relieves chronic pain in most instances. It's
dosage dependant (you must take enough).

Google will give you plenty of info...

The name is Egoscue and he does have a website at
www.egoscue.com

You are correct Sara. I've seen 'miracles' happen just by doing the
stretches in that book. He also has a couple other books, Pain Free at your
Computer and Pain Free for Women. They are all good, but the one that just
says Pain Free is the best, in my opinion.

RE: CS>Chronic Ankle Pain after break

You can use it full strength, or dilute it with distilled water or CS, 70%
DMSO and 30% other liquid. But the ankle area usually isn't a sensitive
skin area, so straight DMSO could be used. It's just that for some people,
their skin is sensitive and since DMSO is very drying for the skin,
sensitive skin gets red or itchy. If you put it on straight and feel
dryness, then you can rub on something natural, like aloe vera, or coconut
oil.

Just rub it on the damaged area. Don't cover it, just rub it in. It will
help with the pain and should also start a healing process. She may want to
rub it in several times a day at first--and in this case putting some aloe
or oil on after will help the dryness.

Just tell them to make sure that they don't use any lotions with chemicals
in it, or wear dark socks after, because DMSO will take 'things' down into
the blood stream. So if you were to put a chemical filled lotion on after,
the DMSO will carry the chemicals into the blood faster than if the skin
just absorbed it. For the dark socks, I've heard that DMSO has pulled dye
out of the socks, so that the skin turned dark.

If the person premixes the DMSO with the CS or distilled water, tell them to
expect the liquid to get very warm--almost hot. There is a chemical
reaction between DMSO and water, and as the DMSO absorbs the water, it heats
up. This is natural and nothing to worry about. After it cools back down,
you can use it.

I managed to get hold of some DMSO, but not really certain how one would use
it for this? Directions would be appreciated!

There is a book called Pain Free, by an author with a name something
like Pete Ergoscue (sp?).
This was a fellow who was badly injured in war, and taught his body how
to realign itself to preinjury
status. He has several books, but this one focuses on various problem
areas, tells you how to do various poses and minimal exertion exercises
that brings one's neuromusculature structure in that area back into
alignment. I had an achilles injury last spring, and things went from
bad to worse, ultimately everything was getting skewed trying to make up
for the injured heel. I was beginning to think I was going to be
permanently disabled. This book took care of the problems, and have
continued to use for other chronic problem areas (my shoulder and such),
and a maintenance set of exercises, about 15 minutes a day, that keeps
things aligned overall. I couldn't afford a chiropractor, but I got
this book from the library, and later purchased one of my own. Its
worth looking into. Sara

Any suggestions?

Peter

Have broken the same ankle twice I would recommend 2 things... a good
acupuncturist and a good chiropractor. If the chiropractor also does
acupuncture I would make sure they were a graduate of an accredited
acupuncture school and were licensed in acupuncture as well. I would not
accept a chiropractor who as done a few hundred hours of training and knows
nothing about Oriental Medicine diagnosing.
Best of luck.
PT
PS: nor would I accept an MD who hasn't gone through an accredited
acupuncture school.
