CS>Re: Hello List/ Pipette-/ & (drinking amounts)

2001-11-02 Thread Reid Harvey
Ivan,
I've been accused of being tongue in cheeky in the past, but my
impression is that the spelling 'litre' is the way the rest of the world
spells it. I wonder if folks in the U.S. spell it the wrong way (i.e.
'liter') because they don't recognize it to begin with. Also, when and
if the U.S. ever does decide to recognize the liter as the standard,
they would not be 'joining the rest of the world.' I would like you to
know that pints, quarts, inches, feet, the whole nine yards, are also
the standard units of Liberia and Myanmar.
Reid
P.S. Oh come on Ivan, you wouldn't make us yanks say 'whole nine
meters?'
P.P.S. By the way, Black , I believe the litre is
actually a unit of volume, that is one cubic decimeter, i.e. 10 cms.
cubed. My impression is that by contrast the quart is a unit of weight,
originating from the pint, so the old saw, 'a pint's a pound the world
round.' But alas controversy surrounds this axiom as well. It seems the
ditty is only true if one is a traveling American. The one-time British
pint is not the same as the present-day American pint. R.
P.P.P.S. Mike: I suppose every one of use has to choose our wars. Sorry.

A litre (notice the spelling?) is what one day the US will recognise as

standard unit of liquid measurement, and hence join the rest of the
world

Re: CS>Re: Hello

2001-08-29 Thread Robert L. Berger
Hi Bill,

Things are as confused as usual. I have had some strange things happening with
my HVAC ARC CS.

I store the CS in the DW bottles. The run on 8/5 checked out as Ag = 15.4 PPM
ans NO3 = 2.7
When I rechecked the NO3 on 8/25 it was 18 PPM.
On 8/16 I made a 2 gal. batch at Ag = 12.8 and NO3 =2.34 PPM I covered the jug
with a single layer of paper napkin and left it in the sunlight on my back
deck. I can't check the Ag ppm until about Friday as I am out of chiemiclas but
the NO3 checked out at 16 PPM

So on 8/26 I made another 2 gal. run the NO3 = 3.43. I put into two DW bottles,
one capped tight and the other with a single layer of paper napkin covering
the opening.
8/27 close bottle NO3 = 1.8; Open bottle NO3 = 8.28 ? could be my
error.
8/28 closed bottle NO3 = 2.16 Open bottle NO3 =2.34
8/29 closed bottle NO3 = 2.16 Open bottles NO3 = 2.7

On 8/28 I made two runs the only difference was that one had a Bosch plug and
the other a silver "V" point 0.040 X 1/2" add for these two runs I added Dry
Ice to my CO2 generator. Everything else held constant
Run #1 The Bosch plug run had 27 ppm of NO3.
Run #2 The silver "V" run had 8.1 ppm of NO3.

I have never seen such high NO3 measuremnts!
So I made a 3rd. run with the "V"point but replaced the plate electrode (1" x
4" wet) with a 5" #14 wire and the NO3 is 3.78?

Confused "Ole Bob"

Hi BJS: Maybe we are all recovered from whatever ailed us. It is sure
working for me, and I have a bunch of stuff to share with the group in the
next week or so. I have been moving for the past week, and it is more than
awful. We have moved from a 3400 square foot house to a 2200 foot one. Need
