Re: CS>source for DMSO
My refrigerator is at 40 degrees F and when I tried to do this, there was no liquid left unfrozen to pour off. So I guess it's pretty good stuff then. :) I get it here: http://tinyurl.com/naembr -- /\ /\ <\ />Indi ^ 'v-v' On Sat, Aug 29, 2009 at 09:27:40AM -0400, Saralou wrote: >DMSO freezes at appx 65ºF. Re: CS>source for DMSO
When the seller says 99.7 pure it is not clear exactly what they are talking about. However, I remember when I was looking into it that it was indicated that the normal impurities in DMSO were water soluble. Pure DMSO has a high freezing point, above that of water, so it can be frozen in a refrigerator while the water portion will still remain liquid. So, do this and pour out the water and the water soluble impurities with it. Crystallized substances are often very pure. I did this to one batch once, and I could not get it to become liquid again until I added some distilled water to it. I believe you could add a small amount of distilled water to the remaining DMSO and shake it up and repeat the process, thereby "washing" it and removing even more of the impurities. If you do this, don't add too much water, maybe 3 to 5%, you would have to experiment. The fact is, if you consider the stinky stuff in DMSO to be an impurity, it can be removed in this manner. The stinky stuff is in the liquid poured off, and the resultant DMSO is less smelly, in fact I don't get the garlic taste when I put it on topically after purifying it this way. Using the poured off liquid topically gives one very smelly breath, etc. I figured this out logically from reading about the properties of DMSO. I proved it experimentally by doing it. Others have repeated and confirmed the process and results. You may also try it, without charge... Re: CS>source for DMSO
DMSO freezes at appx 65ºF. Refrigerators are generally kept at 40ºF.Logic says that the frozen stuff is DMSO and the not frozen stuff is not DMSO. The reason I believe that the process further "cleans" DMSO is because the liquid has concentrated odor. The "treated" DMSO seems to have a reduced odor...but that may just be wishful thinking on my part. http://fscimage.fishersci.com/msds/07770.htm http://www.sensorsone.co.uk/temperature-units-conversion.html Scott Adams wrote: How do you know its more pure when you get done? Ken, Try Harvest House (health food store) in Concord. They have brown glass bottles of DMSO 99.9% in both 4 oz. and 8 oz. Re: CS>source for DMSO
To further purify the DMSO, put it in you refrigerator until most of it is frozen. Then pour out the liquid portion which will have most of the (water soluble) smelly stuff in it. What's left behind is very pure. You can pour the liquid portion into a clear plastic drinking water bottle and re-freeze it and repeat the process. That way you will waste less, although it may not end up auite as smell free as the first batch. Dan On Thu, Aug 27, 2009 at 11:19 PM, Ken & Nancy Bagwell wrote: > Thank you, Tel. That should be fine, Ken. That's the purity you'll find all over the place including your health food store. FWIW it's what I use. Chuck Mickey Mouse wears a Dan Quayle watch.
