[Simh] CONCOMP Project papers

2019-10-09 Thread SPC
Hello. While I was looking for documents on classical computing at
https://discover.dtic.mil I have run into several ones clustered under the
acronym "CONCOMP Project" (1966-1970). The most interesting of this project
is its attempt to develop a permanent communication between a PDP-7 and an
IBM 1800 systems, identified generically as LOCOSS. This included:

- The development of a hardware communication interface.
- Modification of the PDP-7 assembler in order to handle that interface
- The development of software modules for each of the aforementioned
systems to interact with the interface
- The development of a "monitor" (aka OS, I guess)
- The development of a file system

I share the search link here just in case it might be of interest for
anyone. Personally I would love to see this primitive distributed system
running and operative, but I doubt that even the source code of each of the
elements that I have indicated could be found today.

https://discover.dtic.mil/results/?q=concomp

Cordiales saludos / Kind Regards.

If I remember well there is one "experimental" development on SIMH of one
Honeywell 516 with one IMP interface added.

The key would be, I think (a longshot):

- The development of the connection between every host and *this* IMP.
- The availability of the NCP in every host attached.

Re: [Simh] Release of a set of simulators for IBM 7000 series mainframes.

2017-12-28 Thread SPC
My sincere congratulations, Richard. I've keeping track of from time to
time on your website your continuous effort with these simulators and I've
even trying some of them. The Simulation of Historical Computing Systems is
what it is thanks to the efforts of people like you.

I'd like to extend this comment to other developers of simulated systems
(and contributors) linked to this list that have provide additions to SIMH
from time to time. Between fifteen and twenty years ago I had my first
contact with this and the advances from this date to now are impressive.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Re: [Simh] AT 3B2 Emulator

2017-11-14 Thread SPC
A LOT of THANKS, Seth.

I own an AT & T 3B2 / 400 still operational, but barely. In fact it gives
off a certain smell of ozone when it's been on for a while ;-) All this
apart from some recent failure of some internal electronic component. The
years do not forgive.

And in spite of everything, it is one of my most beloved machines.

So, once again, THANK YOU.

Are there available some progamming language kit inside ? In fact I'm

Re: [Simh] KS10 IMP documentation

2016-02-29 Thread SPC
Hum... not sure about this, but someone talked here some years ago about a
modification of the SIMH Honeywell simulator to convert it in one IMP. I
assume that he had some kind of BBN IMP code.

I'm not sure if this project would be limited to tray to simulate the
original ARPANET token ring limited to the IMPs or there was some other
goals to reach. An example: modify another simulator adding to it a
simulation of one device like this one (AN22) making it to talk with the
IMP.

As I said this was a post from years ago. Perhaps was Bob Armstrong who
talked about it but I'm not sure at all.

Kind Regards.

Re: [Simh] Writing a simulator (was: Unit/functional testing simulators (Seth Morabito))

2014-12-09 Thread SPC
Hello everybody. I got some questions for you (not special quick for an
answer really):

- Is there a date to release a new version of SIMH in a near future ?
- What's about the Simulators included in the new release ? Is there a
draft list available ?
- What are the new improvements included in the pack in case of a new
release ?

I'm not sure where simh development is discussed with the move to
github. I submitted a couple of bug but I have some other changes I
have made to my version and want to see if they are of interest.

 1) Modify bin loader to read multiple section tapes.
 2) Modify breakpoint command to add breakpoint on instruction value.
 3) Raw socket for teletype console instead of telnet wrapped.

Re: [Simh] PDP-11 linux cross-assembler

I got one copy in my hard disk of macro-11, plus the source code. It's
dated in 2001 but I suppose you can locate it yet inside the SIMH Tools
package.

2012/7/19 Bob Armstrong b...@jfcl.com

Richard Krebhiel (sp?) wrote a version of MACRO-11 in generic C. I
thought it was part of the simh tools. I know it works under Windows -
 I'd
be surprised if it didn't work (or couldn't easily be made to work) under
 Linux.

2.11BSD's assembler, written in C, could be ported to gcc with some
mechanical effort to turn the old KR C to something that gcc only gripes
 about but will compile.

Re: [Simh] Another Serial question.

2011-11-07 Thread SPC
I realized this with TCPSER, PUTTY and SIMH.

SPc.

2011/11/7 Mark Benson md.ben...@gmail.com

If I redirect the master terminal to /dev/ttyS0 (a serial port) will SimH
carry on regardless of if a user interacts with the terminal?

If I redirect it to a TELNET port the emulator quits if I close the telnet
link (presumably because it defaults to modem controls and so closes the
 terminal on disconnect).

Or... can I disable the modem controls on the telnet connection?

Re: [Simh] ARM simulator?

2011-09-20 Thread SPC
Hi there.

2011/9/20 Dave dave.g4...@gmail.com

Although I would tend to agree with Al, to my mind Emulation mimics almost
exactly all the compenents of a system, whereas simulation mimics some
subset. So SIMH emulates, and data input will be treated identicaaly on
 real
 hardware.

I like this definition more than the rest.

In fact, Dave, if you don't have inconvenience I need one for the
Emulation/Simulation section of my Webpage. We can speak about the rights
matter later ;-)
