Re: [Sks-devel] No dumps
Hello, I'm managing a pretty new server, but already running in the public pool (reconciled pretty well). I'm in no position to offer regular/periodic dumps as a permanent public service, since I have neither bandwidth nor plenty of s of space. But, since the continual operation of the server is not hot critical for me, I may shut it down for a few hours to produce an updated dump, from time to time. Can anyone please provide a (verified) script that will produce a reliable dump from a live database, once the database is shut down? Or a good procedure to obtain a dump, with existing tools (I' m running CentOS 7.x) May I respectfully suggest that IPFS (https://ipfs.io/), a distributed filesystem with no data duplication is good way to store (and distribute) files, even better than rsync? I'm east coast US, but they're compressed with lrzip so a full dump is only about 9.4GB in total. Re: [Sks-devel] No dumps
When loading loads between and 0089, the server is installed with 5.385.190 keys. Of course, the shortage of dump publishers is forcing beginners. I first used the dumps published by the mattrude, but in a few days the dumps were deleted on the server. there is not enough free space on my server to dump dumps. it would be nice to have dumps with proper server features. Hi there, I'm going to create weekly or daily (currently undecided) dumps of the sks-db. If I'ld offer that dumps for download, is there some best-practice how the URL should look like and how to offer them? Putting plain sks-dump-*.pgp would be a huge waste of bandwidth. Is some type of archive preferred or recommended? Maybe bzip2'ing every single .pgp file? Or put it into on tar.bz2? Re: [Sks-devel] sks dumps
By using bzip2 -9 on single pgp files, the savings are an average 17%. Each 24MB is shrinked to appx. 20MB. Even if the saving currently sums up to ~800MB (4,8G vs. ~4G), I had higher expectations on that. Am Donnerstag, den 26.07.2012, 14:06 -0700 schrieb Chris Kuethe: last time, i set up two instances of SKS, one of which was running on localhost and only peered with my public server. i could then drop the private server and do all kinds of bad things to it... have you measured any significant saving from compressing the .pgp files? i thought keys are already compressed data... one giant file is a bad idea: that makes it more difficult to download small chunks. There really is not enough churn to justify a daily dump If I'ld offer that dumps for download, is there some best-practice how the URL should look like and how to offer them? You can look at thw wiki to see the different styles of URL. It's pretty much up to the server admin. HTTP is most common, then FTP. There isn't a rsync feed that I know of. Putting plain sks-dump-*.pgp would be a huge waste of bandwidth. Is some type of archive preferred or recommended? Maybe bzip2'ing every single .pgp file? Or put it into on tar.bz2? You don't gain very much by compressing, maybe 1-2% tar.bz2 is not, IMO, a very good idea. A single bit error and the entire download needs to start over. With separate files and a MD5SUM file, only a single dump file would need to be downloaded again. ___ Sks-devel mailing list Sks-devel@nongnu.org https://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/sks-devel
