Weee...they _did_ play the Pop Explosion two years running. AND
they're from Rhode Island, which is on the East Coast. And since James'
sig says only East Coast rawk;), not East Coast of Canada...you get the
idea. Scarce only has one major release right now: the _Red_ EP (named
after the sound engineer for the recording). Right now they're touring
with Hole in Europe, but I spoke with them over email, and they hope to
get up to Halifax sometime this summer, cause they love us so much
(really...they think Hali's great!). How's that?

PS Get _Red_, if you don't have it...music from the Gawds. And they have
even more energy in a live show, so if they ever get to Calgary, see them
at all costs.

PPS I'm sure the Pop Explosion will happen again this year, in the late fall
as usual.

That is, if Peter Rowan ever replaces the $200 rubber cheque he sprung on
the Model UN Society I'm in [_Decent_ Management? Not of money...;)].

FOR SALE: 4M of Archives

1995-05-31 Thread Andrew P. Rodenhiser
OK, I posted this offer a while back and got minimal response. I have
archived nearly a thousand interesting, informative SloanNet Messages
dating back to the infancy of the 'net (like, two weeks old, when I
joined) but I really could use the 3-4M of space (compressed, even!) which
they occupy on my 120M hard drive here at work. I'm hoping that someone
out there can either point me to an archive site where they can be
uploaded (perhaps in monthly format) or take them off my hands. I'd
really hate to delete this stuff and the die-hard fans out there who
didn't join so early on might like to read it (as would whoever takes on
the task of FAQing this list).

It's all here, folks:

lyrics
newspaper articles
trivia
interviews
music reviews
gig reviews
record store reviews
the joys of vinyl
discussions of earplug acoustics
and the occasional flamewar

Somebody please help me preserve this wealth of info.

while i wouldn't mind taking this off your hands,
i'm not very computer-literate and i'm not sure
if my mac has - what - 3-4 megabytes, right?
actually, i do have that available but...

if a good offer doesn't come along, i suppose i
would - if this is feasible on my machine.

i'm somewhat of an ignoramus when it comes
to computalk.

good luck.
i'd really like to read the chit-chat re. earplugs.

My secret life

1995-05-31 Thread McHugh,Janet;Med;
I find it intersting that you don't dig My Secret Life, James. I htink
it's one of the best songs on the album. As a matter of fact though, I do
like almost every song on the album. I don't know, I'm just happy to hear
some of Mike's songs after seeing these guys play together since high
school and this is the first time Mikle has written ANYTHING! Matt even
wrote songs before Mike. Anyways, My Secret Life is probably my second
favourite or perhaps third on the album.

Also, the test pressings of the album are rarer than the promos, and they
don't even have the bands name on them. All the test vinyl is is a blank
white sleeve and the centre label on the Record only says Test Pressing
SP-289 or whatever the catalogue # is. So do I have any offers? Ha Ha.
Only joking. Also, I heard the album has a bonus track not on the promos.
A Husker Du tune I beleive. How about a review of that?

Also, Eric's Trip are coming to St.John's! With, get this, the
Rheostatics and the Tragically Hip! Can you believe it? They're playing
at the STADIUM. It holds something like 3000 people, give or take several
hundred. Tickets are $26! I can't believe it! I will have to shuck out
the bucks though I suppose, Too bad they're not playing at a club or
something. We shoulod book them to do another show under a different name
if they're not aloud (sic.) to play other venues (probably a contratual
agreement for a shoiw like this).

Anywaus, that's it fromt the rock for now,
Bung, Liz Band and Potmaster at the loft this Fri. Sat.

Scarce are a totally awesome band. Their live shows are the best that the
deuce and brunswick hall/birdland have ever seen! They are just a
shaving better the ET live(probably due to the few scarce shows
I've seen).

They have finished their European tour.
