1.mucheast since my parents are big gimps and don't subscribe to the local cable channels, i don't get to see muchmusic. this is not neccessarily a bad thing, considering i don't think steve anthony works there anymore, but being at my nan's house this holiday season i got to see mucheast(xmas eve) and a barrage of east coast music. vidscan't remember all of them but these are the ones that i do not forget: ashley macissac-the song doesn't go anywhere great big sea-ok sunfish-yawn superfriendz-yawn monoxides-this was fun, you don't see fun very often anymore cool blue halo-music sucked, but i liked the video al tuck-cool song, cool vid jale-channel surf grace babies-wicked the grace babies video is the second one i've seen and also the second song i have heard. they are one of the better bands i have heard lately and i would like to acquire some/all of their discography, so tell me what i can get and how can i get it. 2.reviews in the latest and new and improved four-color-cover "granite" magazine, st. john's indie rock publication, there is a review for a spine release and a 7" by catano's band(i can't remember their name right now) on zedd/daydream records. anyone in st. john's who knows how to type should/could put it here, on sloan net. destroydestroydestroydestroydestroydestroydestroydestroydestroydestroydestroyd jeremy clarke "naughty by nature, st. john's NF Canada and white by choice, [EMAIL PROTECTED]the sound of my voice makes your panties moist"-the bloodhound gang everythingeverythingevrythingeverythingeverythingeverythingeverythingeverythin
re: setting up a show
just my own two cents -- you can check out the massive article/piece on setting up shows (spec. all ages) in the august '95 Discorder magazine, which is on line (and fully hyper-texted!) at http://www.ams.ubc.ca/citr later brian, who's just returned from the completion of another self-promo'd show!
show response
Howdy, AL HERE! here are some suggestions for Bruce Wheeler's Weeping Tile, Inbreds, Treble Charger show... (this is my very first sloannet contribution, so bare with me, i fear that i might appear as a pretentious know-it-all fool but hey!) **these are my show tips** -first of all, confirm your locale, cuz you'll definitely need to be sure of its capacity & size so you can judge what kind of sound system you'll need. -it's usually much easier to book bands directly through the band members than through a booking agent. e-mail the band and inquire about booking a show and when you get your response at least you'll know who you'll be dealing with. (booking agents tend to be a wee bit more concerned about $money$, so they'll usually be very interested in the capacity of the venue. more people = more money, right?) Actually GETTING the band can be suprisingly easy. -if you're renting equipment and getting someone to mix the sound for ya, be sure to ask lots of questions ("what does this nob do?") so you can learn along the way. Depending on the size of the locale, renting huge columns and big mixers can be QUITE useless INDEED. -make sure technical stuff like mics and drums are covered (remember, if the locale is big, you'll need mics for the drums also.) -perhaps you can even attempt at getting a sponsor. If you're renting your equipment from a particular music store they might CUT SOME COSTS if you have the show like "brought to you by (i don't know) The Kingston Shop of Music" Or just mention them on your ads and stuff. -it's courteous to provide your bands with a room where they can hang with some food, beer... Anyways, if you have the money to start off, you'll be ok. if any one disagrees with something i said, please don't shoot me down too badly, remember... i'm NEW. AL
