Thanks for your reply, Dennis. I am not sure how to answer your
question. I got a window telling me there was an error which prevented
opening the file. But about then I somehow lost the lot. I will try
another download later and will be more careful about reading what appears.

It seems like the instructions on the web site are pretty complete. Are
you having trouble with the install script or some other problem?

I am running Ubuntu 10 and have just downloaded
CorelPHOTOPAINT9Lnx.tar.gz which is sitting in the archive window. Would
appreciate advice on what to type into the command line to get it running.

John.

[SLUG] Zeus

2005-12-29 Thread retsil

Hi,

I've grown very fond of the good old zipworld/pacific internet shell server
(zeus). The service was terminated yesterday for security reasons. Does anyone
know of a similar service which is available on the domestic network? I know
that I can always set up my own box at home, but the response, uptime and speed
of zeus is more than I could ever achieve at home.

Cheers,

Robbie

Try bur.st (http://bur.st/).

The only other option in Australia would perhaps be iiNet who have a
shell service, but it was ridiculously restricted beyond usefulness
last time I used it.

[SLUG] (no subject)

2005-12-29 Thread retsil

A little follow up:

Pacific blocks all privlidged ports to their express ADSL customers.
I initially contacted techincal support and asked if they could allow me to have
a shell service at home (ADSL) on port 22. Unfortunately I accessed zeus from
some strange networks where they only allow new outbound connections on
privlidged ports.

I've been on the phone to Pacific Internet. It seems that trying to cancel my
ADSL, Phone and the rest is quite complicated. They have insisted that I must
give 30 days notice for the disconnection of my ADSL service. I told them to go
jump (in the nicest possible way) because we were only given 24 hours notice
about zeus. The guy on the phone then said that I was on a 6 month contract
since I changed location, so I must pay out the next 3 months. I managed to
avoid the hefty termination fee, but I'm still paying for 30 days of access I
don't require.

Oh well, I don't really want to get into a dispute with them. It'll just remind
me even more of what they gave and what they took away. Besides, I'd like to
leave them on a positive note, I think that most of the staff there are
excellent.
