[SLUG] A LaTeX question
I'm helping a student set a paper in LaTeX and I'm having trouble with BibTeX. The trouble is that she has to use the American Psychology Association style. As one who uses only the Harvard system, I am trying to keep it simple, if only to broaden my own education. Normally, I would simple include \bibliographystyle{apa} in the preamble, then \bibliography{ReferenceList} towards the end of the essay (TLC suggestion) and the reference would be ReferenceList.bib following the form in TLC. But something's not working. It occurs to me that apa.bst might not be part of the standard LaTeX package (I can't find it, if it is). Can anyone help? I'd appreciate any suggestions. You're missing Michael Chesterton, Nominated, second, and accepted as Ordinary Committee Member in the thread at http://lists.slug.org.au/archives/activities/2009/03/msg2.htm At least, I think he was - was there a procedural problem with any of that? While I'm here, I'll get a few other things accomplished: I'l second both Sridhar and Melissa for the positions of President and Secretary respectively. Ken Wilson has never done anything less than a stellar job as Treasurer. I'd like to nominate him for the same role again, if he's willing to shoulder this burden yet again. [SLUG] SLUG Committee elections: progress so far
Hi everybody, It's been over a week since nominations were opened for the SLUG Committee elections. So far we only have one person accept their position. There have been two other nominations, but they have not been seconded and so cannot be accepted yet. Here are the statuses of the current nominations: Sridhar Dhanapalan for President http://lists.slug.org.au/archives/activities/2009/03/msg1.html Status: requires seconding Melissa Draper for Secretary http://lists.slug.org.au/archives/activities/2009/02/msg00021.html Status: requires seconding Tim Ansell for Ordinary Committee Member http://lists.slug.org.au/archives/activities/2009/02/msg00022.html Status: accepted We are still in need of candidates to fill all seven positions. The means to nominate a candidate is simple: simply send an e-mail to activit...@slug.org.au in the manner shown in the links above. We also welcome self-nominations. For more detail on the process, see these pages: http://wiki.slug.org.au/2009agm (2009 AGM info) http://wiki.slug.org.au/agm_guide (general guide to the AGM) http://slug.org.au/participation (includes a summary of Committee responsibilities) http://www.slug.org.au/node/112 (Web announcement) http://lists.slug.org.au/archives/announce/2009/03/msg1.html (mail announcement) If you still have questions, feel free to raise them on the Activities list. -- Bring choice back to your computer. http://www.linux.org.au/linux -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
[SLUG] March SLUG Monthly Meeting & AGM: Friday, March 27 2009
== March Sydney Linux Users Group Monthly Meeting & Annual General Meeting == The full announcement of this meeting is at http://slug.org.au/node/112 When: 18.30 - 20.30, Friday, 27 March, 2009 We start at 18:30 but we ask that people arrive 15 minutes early so we can all get into the building and start on time. Please do not arrive before 18:00, as it may hinder business activities for our host! Appropriate signage and directions will be posted on the building. Where: Atlassian[0], 173-185 Sussex Street, Sydney (corner of Sussex and Market Street) Entry is via the rear on Slip Street. There are stairs going down along the outside of building from Sussex St to near the entrance. A map of the area and directions can be found here[1]. = About = SLUG's monthly meeting + AGM, featuring the normal AGM bits and a talk. Meetings are open to the general public, and free of charge. = Sessions = ** AGM: The 2009 SLUG Annual General Meeting ** The SLUG AGM[2] includes annual reports from the president and treasurer and committee elections. You will need to be a SLUG member[3] to vote. We will be accepting memberships on the evening. For a more user-friendly guide to the AGM, see here[4]. ** Lindsay Holmwood: 'Monitoring web application behaviour with cucumber-nagios' ** Setting up monitoring for web applications can be complicated - tests tend to lack expressiveness, or and quite often they don't even test the right problem in the first place. cucumber-nagios lets a sysadmin write behavioural tests for their web apps in plain English, and outputs the test results in the Nagios plugin format, allowing a sysadmin to be notified by Nagios when their production apps aren't behaving. Lindsay will be covering how to get up and running with the tool, writing tests for your web apps, and why it's important for sysadmins to test the behaviour (and not just the availability) of their production web apps. ** SLUGlets ** General discussion and Q&A about Linux, free software and open source. = Meeting Schedule = See here[5] for an explanation of the segments. * 18.15: Open Doors * 18.30: Announcements, News, Introductions * 18.45: General Talk * 19.30: Intermission * 19.45: Split into two groups for: o In-Depth Talk o SLUGlets * 20.30: Dinner Dinner is at Golden Harbour Restaurant[6], in Chinatown. Cost is $25 per head. We will be taking numbers during the intermission to confirm the reservation size. If you have any particular dietary requirements (e.g. vegetarian), or if you would prefer to order separately, let us know beforehand. Dinner is a great way to socialise and learn in a relaxed atmosphere, so come along and have some fun :) We'll see you there!
