[SLUG] Videos and slides from Linux Conf?

2009-05-11 Thread Nick Urbanik

Dear SLUGgies,

Call me an idiot (Nick's a blind idiot!) but I haven't found the
slides and videos from the last Linux Conf. Can someone point me
there? I'm looking firstly for Peter Chub's "I Hate SPAM!" talk.

Here's some talks, there's a peter_chubb-I_hate_spam-20080926.ogg in the
second link, but it's not from the latest linux conf.

[SLUG] A LaTeX problem, with Word.: not quite there.

2009-05-11 Thread wbennett
The pdfpages package works.

I've exported the relevant document as a .pdf

and used

\includepdf(word-appendix.pdf}

in the LaTeX document.

All Ok, as long as I stay in [draft].

When I try the full document, I receive

Page Group detected which pdfTeX can't handle.

My first reaction was to amend the command thus:---

\includepdf[15-20](word-appendix.pdf)

(It's a 20 page document) and work myself backwards until I find what's
stopping pdfLaTeX.

Anyone with a better idea?

Regards,

Bill Bennett.

I think your apache config is wrong. This works for me (with
mod_include enabled):

Options Indexes IncludesNoExec FollowSymLinks ExecCGI
XBitHack full
AllowOverride None

I assumed that XBitHack was an option and put it in the option line, but
obviously I was wrong!

Thanks John...

[SLUG] Web hosting recommendations

2009-05-11 Thread Mary Gardiner
Hi all,

I've looked through the archives but haven't found a lot of relevant stuff:
most people are looking for VPSes and/or hosting within Australia only.

I'm after a web host for a work project. What I need:

 - 3+GB disk space (this rules out the bulk of Australian hosts)
 - shared/managed hosting (I admin enough LAMP servers as it is, thanks, please
   no more VPSs)
 - Linux/PHP/MySQL (I guess that likely implies Apache)

Preferences:
 - prefer good uptime, good service and good performance to cheap-as-chips
   prices
 - prefer a reasonable history of business in some form

For a price: say ballpark AU$40 a year at most.

I wish you luck with all of that but for anyone else interested in
hosting I've found www.intervolve.com.au to be quite good.

I'd be expecting to pay at least twice what you're talking about

That being so, www.justhost.com has a special offer of $3.95 a month
that may fit your needs.

This seems an odd comment to make: the core 3 requirements listed above are
very easy to find, albeit from US hosting companies (AU companies don't provide
that much disk space). My main problem is the paradox of choice, not the
impossibility of finding anything at all. So which of the optional requirements
are too hard: technical stability, business stability, or stability for my
stated price?

Re: [SLUG] Web hosting recommendations

2009-05-11 Thread D.V.Rogers
$40 (AUD) p/year is going to be hard to find even in the US on a
shared server so good luck. I have been using
http://webhostingbuzz.com for a around four years now. Despite the bad
name they have been fantastic..

I have a reseller account in which I host several domains. You are
welcome to have some space on it if you like, but I must point out
that I am not in the business of hosting websites..

cheers
