 How long is a piece of string.  For Uni tutoring / lectures I favour
 weight versus performance.  If we are talking about throwing graphics on
 a screen anything can do that.

 I have done full tutorials on a much worse system than that running
 adobe acrobat and it ran fine.  I don't recommend acrobat, bet evince is
 faster so test it!

 If you are doing some intensive processing to highlight a feature or
 monitoring network traffic realtime on a heavy network then it will not
 hold up.

 Thanks Ken,

 But what I really meant was: Is it good/fast/etc.. enough for the
 specific tutorial on python programming being held at the SLUG meeting
 this month?

Sounds like a hellanzb configuration problem. I have installed it on
multiple machines running 9.10 and it works great.

 Hi Slug,

 Having a bit of an issue at the moment with NTP. Server has been running for

 Recently had a truck take out power lines in the street and no power for 3-4
 hours. Server sits behind somewhat out-of-date, (but still has reserve
 power) UPS and was shut down in time cleanly.

 However, since then server loses time BIG time. Funny thing is, other server
 in same subnet (also NTP) keeps perfect time. Both running CentOS 5.x.

 Now, could be any number of issues, just looking for some guidance on where
 to start looking pls? Anyone got any ideas?

I would start with changing the CMOS battery and seeing if that makes
a difference.

As a normal user try users-admin and then there should be a little

Hello SLUGgers!

We are in need of speaking talent for our SLUG meetings. Our next
meeting is

on May 29 (announcement below), but we don't yet have an In Depth
talk. If you have something that you'd like to talk about, let us know.

This goes for any meeting, not just for the next one. You can generally
assume

that our meetings are on the last Friday of each month (barring December).

For more information on speaking at SLUG, please see these resources:

When:
18.30 - 20.30, Friday, 29 May, 2009

We start at 18.30 but we ask that people arrive 15 minutes early so we

before 18.00, as it may hinder business activities for our host!

Appropriate signage and directions will be posted on the building.

Where:

(corner of Sussex and Market Street)

Entry is via the rear on Slip Street. There are stairs going down along
the outside of building from Sussex St to near the entrance. A map of
the area and directions can be found here[1].

= Talks =

** General Talk **
James Purser: Thinkubating, Or How Local Government Learnt To Love Plone

Some time ago I was approached to put together a quick and easy to use
collaboration platform. I examined the options and Plone filled all the
requirements. In this talk I'll go through the reasons why and give a
couple of examples of how I am using Plone to support Local Government.

** In-Depth Talk **
TBA

** SLUGlets **
General discussion and QA about Linux, free software and open source.

= Meeting Schedule =

See here[2] for an explanation of the segments.

* 18.15: Open Doors
* 18.30: Announcements, News, Introductions
* 18.45: General Talk
* 19.30: Intermission
* 19.45: Split into two groups for:
 o In-Depth Talk
 o SLUGlets
* 20.30: Dinner

Dinner is at Golden Harbour Restaurant, in Chinatown. We will be having
the $24 Banquet[3], but we will be collecting $25 per head for ease of
accounting and to cover a tip. We will be taking numbers during the
break to confirm the reservation size. If you have any particular
dietary requirements (e.g. vegetarian), or if you would prefer to order
separately, let us know beforehand. Dinner is a great way to socialise
and learn in a relaxed atmosphere :)

We hope to see you there!

Since you are running Feisty you will need to upgrade to Gutsy and

Hardy) you can upgrade to Hardy from Feisty but that can get very very
messy and I would not recommend it

First follow the steps here,

and then once that is done follow these steps,

Yes, I haven't found any major issues (have run it since Alpha 1 :P)

On 3/10/08, Peter Hardy [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 The easiest way, if you're not averse to it, is to install the
  gnome-contorol-center package, and run gnome-appearance-properties.
  That'll give you the appearance applet that Lindsay described.

  Failing that, the gconf keys you want are:
  /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/hinting - I assume this is the hinting
  one you've already found.
  /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/antialiasing - The smoothing section
  Lindsay described. My version of hardy provides more than enough
  documentation in gconf-editor about possible values. But if you're not
  seeing them, you need rgba for subpixel smoothing.

Try using gconftool-2 its in the package gconf and then just run something like
$ gconftool-2 --set /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/antialiasing --type
string rgba
$ gconftool-2 --set /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/hinting --type string none

Hope that helps you.
