[SLUG] .procmailrc + forwarding

2005-09-24 Thread Indelible

Hello,
When forwarding email with procmail, the from-address that procmail uses
is [EMAIL PROTECTED] Is it possible to force procmail to use something
different from the login name?
The problem is that the email address that's normally used is an alias
and what I'm trying to do is to force forwarded mail to use this alias
as the from address.

Thanks.

[SLUG] wpa_supplicant weirdness

2005-08-24 Thread Indelible

Hi,

I've recently been playing around with wpa_supplicant and a d-link
DWL-630 pcmcia wireless card (madwifi).

I have an adsl modem/router (non-wireless) with four switched ports. I
have a wireless access point device plugged in to one of the ports and a
couple of PC's in to the others.

I have no problem getting the laptop to associate with the access point,
so wpa_supplicant and madwifi work fine.

From the laptop, once connected, I can ping/connect to the access
point's IP and to the PCs plugged in to the other switch ports without
problem.

But I can't ping/connect to the adsl/modem router and hence have no
internet access. When I send the pings, I can see the LEDs of the port
where the access point is attached to the router flicker, but I get
nothing back.

The subnet is 192.168.10.0/24, the router has .1, access point .99 the
PCs have .70 and .80 respectively.

It's a straight forward setup, I can't get my head around why it doesn't
work.

If I use WEP instead of WPA/wpa_supplicant things work ok.

I'd be grateful for any advice.

[SLUG] Wireless with WPA

2005-06-25 Thread Indelible

Hi,
I'm trying to set up WPA with a pre-shared key for some additional
security on my wireless access point.
The access point is a 3com OfficeConnect 3CRWE454G72. It allows me to
set up WPA with pre-shared key and to specify the key.
I use a prism54-based pcmcia wireless card which works fine with the
access point when used with WEP.
When running wpa_supplicant it scans for access points and finds the
3com ok but doesn't connect. Among a lot of debug output the following
is shown (with a couple of x's thrown in):

0: 00:0b:ac:xx:xx:xx ssid='WPAtest' wpa_ie_len=0 rsn_ie_len=0 caps=0x11
   skip - no WP/RSN IE

I am assuming because the two values are 0 wpa_supplicant thinks the
access point is not WPA capable. Am I correct?

Would anybody have any idea how to correct this situation?
Thanks,
Matt

Re: [SLUG] Line wrapping with TBird composer

That's strange.
So when you write a message, while writing it wraps at 72, not at window
width?
Do you have any funky entries in your prefs.js or user.js?

I write mails in plain text and have the preference set to wrap the line
at 72 chars. However, when typing the message, it wraps at window width
+ about 3 characters (which is normally about 90 chars). So I end up
with a scroll bar and the left margin disappearing. Very annoying!
When I click on Send, the message is rewrapped at 72 characters.
If anybody knows a remedy, I'd be grateful.
Matt.

[SLUG] ASX website

2005-02-09 Thread Indelible
On the ASX website (www.asx.com.au) they have a menu made up of round
icons at the top of the page. However, this menu works with neither
firefox nor mozilla even though javascript is enabled. The menuicons
'highlight' on mouseover but on clicking them nothing happens. In the
statusbar of the browser it says "javascript:void(0)".
I've seen this in several other places as well and was always wondering
if there is some setting I've got to correct or what.
Anybody?
Matt.

Re: [SLUG] Re: ssh login from ssh login

The only problem with the solution as described appears to be that when
the ssh session terminates, the netcat ones don't. They need to be
killed separately. Would there be a workaround for this?

Matt.

ProxyCommand is your friend though, it lets you tunnel via other

I don't get it. Why is this bad?

Several possible reasons (some as mlh has already pointed out):
1) If you use a password to get to the far machine, it's trivial to capture
the keystrokes as they pass through the intermediate machine. Anyone with
root access (either the admins or, if the machine has been cracked, the
attacker) can easily sniff that password.
2) A public key stored on the intermediate machine is fair game for anyone
with root on the box (again, legitimate or cracker). A passphraseless key
is very bad juju, but even a passphrased one is vulnerable to the same
keystroke logging stuff.
3) An ssh-agent-based system is the most secure, but a sneaky root user on
the intermediate machine can use your proxy to get into the far machine (and
anything *else* that's accessable through your ssh-agent session). It's not
as bad as 1 & 2 above, because access can only be obtained while your
ssh-agent session is active on the intermediate machine, but it's still Bad
Stuff.
Of course, none of these problems are particular to SSH (except maybe #3;
I'm not aware of too many other mainstream systems with a similar
capability), but you did ask in the context of SSH in particular.
In short, in order for SSH access through an intermediary to be sensible,
you have to be very confident that (a) the legitimate admins of the machine
are trustworthy enough, and (b) that the machine has not been compromised.
On the modern Internet, that's not a gamble I take lightly.

Yes, definitely the native res.
Everything else is sharp as, it's just the fonts which give me trouble.

Are you running the native res for the LCD in question. ie. native res
for most 17" LCD screens is typically 1280x1024... and if you don't
run this then you get mixed results on the display.
Confirm you are running the correct res.

Does this apply for testing (which I'm running) as well?
How could I find out why a particular package is kept back? At the moment

Cable is faster, but generally has more limits {download caps}, and is
more expensive, and not always available.
ADSL is cheaper, there's more options, and you can get better plans, but
it's slower.
Depends what you value most - price or speed.
