Re: [SLUG] IPSec blues

2003-04-04 Thread Intelligent Dynamic
Hi Howard,

Found out there was a bug in 1.97 with the X.509 patch applied. Looking at
upgrading the patch on the 1.97 machine to fix the problem. (Asked on the
FreeS/WAN list.)

Thanks heaps for the assistance.

With our recent server crash, I've been trying to reimplement the VPN.

Please note that on the other end of the VPN they are using FreeS/WAN
IPsec 1.97 and on this side 1.99

I've copied the /etc/ipsec.conf and /etc/ipsec.secrets file from the
crashed machine into the replacement box.

  I start ipsec - /etc/init.d/ipsec start - everything fine.
No proper routing comes up though when I do a 'route' and I can't ping
the
  other side.

I've been playing with things like 'ipsec auto --ready' and 'ipsec auto
--up connection name used in /etc/ipsec.conf' .. to no avail on either
  end.

On the far end I get:
  112 woolloomooloo-nth_sydney #46: STATE_QUICK_I1: initiate
  010 woolloomooloo-nth_sydney #46: STATE_QUICK_I1: retransmission; will

  wait 40s for response
  031 woolloomooloo-nth_sydney #46: max number of retransmissions (2)
reached STATE_QUICK_I1. No acceptable response to our first Quick Mode
message: perhaps peer likes no proposal
  000 woolloomooloo-nth_sydney #46: starting keying attempt 2 of an
  unlimited number, but releasing whack

When trying the same this on this end I get:
029 woolloomooloo-nth_sydney: cannot initiate connection without
knowing
  peer IP address

Try to work out why it is not resolving this, I think this could be the
 cause.

More information is available upon request.

Any help would be greatly appreciated I've spent most of today trying to
figure this out and things are gloomy.

  Thanks.

[SLUG] Kernel building under Debian...

2003-04-03 Thread Intelligent Dynamic
G'day all...

Using Debian Woody... I've installed the kernel source and packages
(unpacked the kernel and applied a patch to it) ...

I'm about to compile and make a new kernel the traditional way, however I
can remember someone saying an easier way to do it under Debian?

Any pointers?

Thanks...

[SLUG] netatalk modules

2002-09-05 Thread Intelligent Dynamic

G'day all...

I'm using netatalk to do Mac file sharing and printing, and I'm noticing the
netatalk module isn't loaded automatically at startup.

Previously I'd have to do a `modprobe netatalk` and then
`/etc/init.d/netatalk restart` manually. I've since modified the init.d file
such that it does this when supplied with the start parameter.

I'm thinking that there has to be a better way. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Mike

Which distribution are you running? There are slightly different 'correct'
ways to do it if you want to use your distribution's tools.

G'day...

It all depends on whether your USB adaptor is supported under Linux.
 What make/model is it?

It's a Targus brand cable - PA260.

Hopefully it'll be well known enough... Any pointers on where I should
further my search for compatibility?

Thanks...

Is there a graphics tablet that works with linux?

Yeah, heaps - lots of the Wacom tablets are supported, USB and serial. I'm
sure there's a list of others somewhere...

Is there a comprehensive animation studio for linux?

Blender, soon to be GPL too, hopefully. :-)

Re: [SLUG] Killing a process that won't die

2002-06-23 Thread Intelligent Dynamic

G'day...

kill -9 pid

Where pid is the process id. Would be good to correct the cause of the
problem though. ;) :)

A man kill will help, as it explains the different kill levels that you pass
as an argument. 9 kills a process without caring what state it is in.

All the best, and have fun!

Well, this reminds me of the scene from The Party with Peter Sellers
when he's playing the bugle in a war movie and just won't die even after
his own side start shooting at him :-)

 I have a process/thread started by RhythmBox (Gnome2 music manager -
looks great, hasn't playe da tune for me yet) that has grabbed control
of /dev/dsp and will not let go.

I've tried kill and killall as my user and root and it will not die.

Can anyone tell me how else I may be able to exterminate it?

 TIA.
