[SLUG] RE: Writing Char driver in Redhat 9

2004-04-12 Thread Richard Pang
Howdy all,

Thanks for your help, I was stupid and was compiling from /usr/include
rather that usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8/include

Cheers
Rich

[SLUG] pppd problems with mgetty

2001-02-04 Thread Richard Pang

Hi All,

I'm having problems with getting mgetty1.1.20 to connect a ppp connection.
I've done the following

i) Compiled with the line CFLAGS=-02 -Wall -pipe -DAUTO_PPP" in the Makefile
to enable PPP.
ii) Included the line "/AutoPPP/ - - /usr/sbin/pppd auth login +pap -chap
/dev/ttyS1 crtscts proxyarp lock" in the login.config file
iii) Run the command "mgetty -D -a /dev/ttyS1"

In the log file I get the error "yS1 can't get group 'modem': No such file
or directory" and mgetty sends the modem to /bin/login rather than pppd.

Any ideas?

cheers,
Richard Pang

[SLUG] Setting up PPPd for dial in.

2001-03-08 Thread Richard Pang

Hi all,

I'm trying to create a dial in account to my RH6.0 box for a win98 laptop.

I'd like the computer to appear as a 205.199.2.14 on an existing local
subnet
205.199.2.0/24 run by eth0. So far I have mgetty and pppd running, the win98
laptop uses ppp to determine the ip and mask, but doesn't get a gateway.

Do I need a ifcfg-ppp0? If so how? Do I need to set routing? Please help, my
brain hurts...

regards
Rich

Laptop connects establishes, but can't see anything. I've tried pinging
205.199.2.* ad infinitum.
the only one that works is 205.199.2.14, but that's the local machine.

> you set the IP, mask etc.etc. in /etc/ppp/options.ttyS?
options.ttyS1 has the following
205.199.2.14:205.199.2.14
netmask 255.255.255.0

> make sure you specify "proxyarp" in /etc/ppp/options
yep

> make sure "cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward" returns 1
yep

[SLUG] Problems with NETAtalk

2001-04-19 Thread Richard Pang

Hi,

I'm using netatalk-1.4b to run a file server.

I'm getting the error "cannot be written because
of an error type -50 occurred." whenever I try
to make a file transfer which involves filenames
with the trademark or registered symbol, eg. most
adobe executables.
