Depends really on whether you want a news/discussion site like slashdot or a
plain discussion site. For the former I'd recommend postnuke above slash
(see www.postnuke.com) because it's much easier to install and maintain.
I'm told slash can handle a greater load, but most people don't get the
traffic that slashdot does.

For the latter, most people seem to use phorum or phpBB2 :)

The latest Mozilla will always be superior to the latest Netscape. Netscape
is just an old Mozilla build with a bunch of AOL stuff added to it.

I've seen a script around that connects back to the attacking system and
pops up a window on their screen telling them to fix their system.

Another option is to write to the offenders ISP, who will often take them
offline until they prove their system is clean (when I was working for an
ISP we did this).

RMS has an article on this somewhere, but the basic idea is that the
majority of programmers are not employed creating retail proprietary
software (ie for companies like MS), they are employed in things like
service intergration/consultancy and supporting in house applications.

Open source would lead to more of these programmers, not less, since
companies are able to rely on their own programmers to support Linux rather
than relying on MSs programmers to support Windows.

Really depends on what sort of work you want to do. If you want to be a
coder, the MCP will be useless. If you want to be a Windows admin, it's
likely the degree will be useless.

I'm fairly sure that the IT deficit isn't a government deficit but a trade
deficit. Not really the government's job to fix IMO, tho Pauline would
probably tell you otherwise.

localhost or 127.0.0.1 or whatever your local machine is called.

try telnet localhost 25 to see if it will respond

You can set up a local SMTP server which will hold mail until you next
connect to the net. I'm fairly sure sendmail does this by default.

Strangely, Google seems to have rolled back their cache to sometime in
July/August for many websites (it was previously updating the cache for
many sites daily).

It's because the list sees the SMTP envelope address and not the address in
the header.

One workaround is to give your machine the domain sunink.com, not sure if
there's a better way.

Re: [SLUG] KDE 2.0

If you can find the source RPMS you can compile by typing

rpm --rebuild package

I could only find RedHat 7 SRPMS which were not compatible with the
version of rpm on my system (rh6.2).

I think a new Mandrake will be out soon which will contain KDE2 so it
might be worth waiting for that.

Most certifications require you to sign an NDA so you don't go telling
