Re: [SLUG] Little knowledge required about Dell
Hi Craig, I spoke to DELL today and they said that the Lattitude XPi is one of the few notebooks that they do NOT have Linux video drivers for. Having said that, I believe it can be done, but it may take a little work. BTW, your new machine and monitor arrived today - PIII/750 with 20Gb H/D and a 19" monitor (bastard !!) - also a CD Burner, 1Gb JAZ and 250Mb ZIP to go on the second machine. Couple of interesting items coming up - we have the repatching to do in Bridge St (Jan 13 it looks like), plus we have to schedule the replacement of 5 hubs in Margaret St with Cisco Switches (arrived today - not even going to think about this until the end of Jan !!). I'll be in a meeting with Dereck on Friday, primarily to discuss what changes Bruce's resignation will have on both of us - you have a shitload of work to do (!!!), but I'm probably going to pick up quite a bit of his as well. If I get a chance over the weekend, I'll email you a list of all the upcoming events we have to schedule work for...:-) I told you that you wouldn't be bored !!! So when the Dell is dock it should boot and display to the external monitor. It does the normal boot display to the external monitor but when it goes to the login display the Dell goes back to the LCD screen. From my (admittedly hazy) memory, the external monitor is activated by a function key combination, and you can set the bios up to have LCD, External or both. The trick with most external monitors/data projectors is that you plug the laptop into the external device first BEFORE turning the laptop on. After that everything is usually sweet. tom. [SLUG] Little knowledge required about Dell
Very general question, does any one have experience setting up Dell notebooks, docking stations and external monitors. ComputerBank has been donated some of these units and I having a bit of fun getting the external monitor to work.
