Topic: A web 2.0, crowd sourcing, social networking development,
OpenStreetMap
(http://www.openstreetmap.org) is a rapidly growing global project to
create a complete map of the world, providing free, rich geographic data
to anyone for any use. The project was started because most maps you may
think of as free actually have legal or technical restrictions on their
use, holding back people from using them in creative, productive, or
unexpected ways. Since 2004 OpenStreetMap has grown to cover the world.
With good data coverage in most major urban areas of the world,
OpenStreetMap provides a viable alternative to proprietary mapping data,
encouraging the development of innovative software.
While some of the current OpenStreetMap data has come from government
and commercial imports, much of the work that goes into making the best
maps comes from the contributions of individual mappers - people like you.
Included within the presentation is an outline of the many ways that you
can join in to help, from taking brief notes while you walk the dog, to
the most efficient way to map your whole suburb and the best equipment
for doing so.

About the Presenter:
Cameron Dawdy is an active contributing member of the openstreetmap.org
group since September 2008. Initially starting out as a hobby, it's
developed into an excuse to visit odd places via 100km detours, as well
as somewhat more practical reasons for using detailed and customised
openstreetmap data for work purposes.

He's got a few funny stories of travels, some gems about what
openstreetmap has managed to accomplish so far, and many other aspects
of openstreetmap - it's not just a map on the internet!
