 small network. ipac is old and the official source
 doesn't support
 2.4.x kernels (IPChains).

I am looking for an IP volume  bandwidth accounting package to track
user and/or workstation usage on a small network.

pmacct, http://www.ba.cnr.it/~paolo/pmacct/

does everything you want for the accounting side of things, and reporting
that data is pretty trivial.  You can hook it into rrdtool-based things
easy, or write your own.

I would steer well away from ipac and derivatives if you want to keep your
firewall sane.
