[SLUG] WindowsUpdate.com is running a Linux server? O.o

2003-08-16 Thread Andar Broment

According to Netcraft's "what is that site
running?" Service ( http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=www.windowsupdate.com)
, www.windowsupdate.com is
running MS IIS 6.0 on a linux box as of today. Conspiracy theory or windows
update bracing for the MSBlast DDOS?

Cool.

I dont understand. I didnt think that MS IIS can run on Linux or any
UNIX system. It runs on MS Win 2000 servers and things like that.
I checked http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com (as I know that is a MS
site) at uptime.netcraft and its indeed reported as IIS on Linux.

So IIS does run on UNIXs then eh?

Read the FAQ. It answers the impossible combination question.

... Microsoft is already a customer of Cambridge, Mass.-based Akamai

Microsoft spokesman...

Akamai Technologies use distributed clusters of Linux machines to
proxy the MS site, thus diffusing DDOS attacks. That is why it seems
that the MS site is running on Linux.
