Re: Development of the GTA03 suspended?

I'll write a blog post about this over the weekend. In a nutshell and non-
authoritive (I'm not posting from my Openmoko adress):

*) Due to both some mistakes in planning as well as unforseeable circumstances
mixed with the global economic situation, in order to survive at all, Openmoko
had to suspend all activity of one on their two products-in-the-pipeline.

*) There will not be any new open phones (including GTA03, OM3d7K, etc.) from
Openmoko in the next 12 months.

*) To cut down costs, most of the telephony team was let go, including the FSO
team. At this point, FSO is no longer funded -- hence we're looking for
funding to continue our activities towards dbus-based middleware for all kinds
of open mobile devices.

*) GTA02 is still on sale.

*) GTA02 will receive kernel updates and a major distro update in Summer 2009.

*) FSO has not changed their roadmap yet. We plan to deliver MS5.5 soon.

*) FSO will continue to support GTA02, although priorities may shift slightly
towards integrating other devices.

*) The FSO team and Openmoko have nothing but friendly relations. We worked
over 2.5 years together and trust each other. If Openmoko manages to survive
until they restart open Linux-based phones, FSO will most likely be on board
again.

I hope that cleans the most important points until I have time to discuss this
more thorough.

Why is the OpenExpo controversial?
