[RCSE] New SF Bay Area Wind Streaklines Map

2000-04-07 Thread Rpvi

Hello,

For all you SF Bay area slopers (and other interested parties), take a look
at the new "Streaklines" wind map by the USGS. VERY COOL ! (and useful)

   http://sfports.wr.usgs.gov/wind/streaklines.shtml

(Notice how Pacifica gets the best NW winds.)

[RCSE] Selectable Tx FM frequency shift polarity

2000-04-07 Thread Robert Steinhaus

FM radios modulate the base carrier in frequency (slightly increasing and
decreasing the frequency of the carrier) to transmit information to
receivers and servos. The polarity of the shifting of the carrier is
different for different manufacturers. It would be nice to use one
transmitter with all styles and manufactures of FM receivers.
I would be grateful to know if any FM computer transmitter offers the
feature of switchable frequency shift sense (selectable FM shift polarity).
Does anyone know of a manufacturer making a transmitter having this feature?

[RCSE] You know your getting old when....

2000-04-07 Thread Tom Copp

I must be getting old! I have a F3F race this weekend and I ordered some
models in December so I would have them in time for the season. Because of
one thing or another they haven't arrived yet. I was able to pry a Pike F3F
model from Mark Taylor's cold dead fingers for this weekends race. I have a
few 'Hot Laps" on the Pike at my local slope in Costa Mesa but that is all.
The Pike is a very easy plane to fly and is quite fast, by all means a world
class model. But it's not mine.

As I was getting my work life in some kind of order so I can get away this
weekend, the guy in the little truck pulled up and delivered my Acacia
order. I tore open the box, found the hardware and assembled the model
Yea Baby!! Now let me think, if I do an all niter I can get it together,
get up early, pack the car, change my oil, drive to Los Banos before the sun
sets for some trim flights, enter the contest, post fast time, win every
round...Hey, after all the model is already built! The younger Tom would
just be removing the wings from the bag of his next "World Beater" two days
before the contest anyway. That set up was good for a few victories in the
past, it also had a built in excuse for a bad showing!

Now the Getting Old part. I didn't do it! I thought about it. I just
couldn't do it. The thought of a good night sleep was too overpowering. (The
bench was dirty anyway)

The older (Wiser??)

The Airtronics Stylus. It works great with any main FM brand receiver. The
no longer produced Airtronics Vision also does.

[RCSE] U.S. Slope Site Directory...Post your slope! (read first)

2000-04-07 Thread Mike Kovacs

If you are posting a slope, make sure that you give
all asked information except for the slope's name. I
need the state its in, the city or nearest city, type
of slope, wind direction, and directions to the slope
from major highway or road.

A few of the posts have been saying that its not in a
city so they don't give the nearest city. However,
they do give the interstate, which is great!
But...interstates run through the state, so please
give the nearest city, so it is easier to find the
slope for those traveling flyers.

The directory is for those flyers who are going
somewhere and want to see if there is a slope close to
where they are going.

Thanks

[RCSE] Reconfigure Square pack to Flat !

2000-04-07 Thread Glide2Goal

Dear all- I have a 600ae 4-cell square pack that I want to convert to a flat
pack.
So, I removed the plastic heatshrink, and removed one of the metal tabs that
connects two of the cells. I've hot glued the cells into the flat shape, and
now need to reconnect the two terminals. Question: Should I reuse the flat
metal strip and
solder it on, or maybe use a piece of braided wire ? It looks to me like at
the factory they press on the metal strip, as there are 4 little indents in
the terminal.
Are there any tricks to soldering on a battery terminal ? Also, any tips on
the best way to wrap the new flat pack for additional strength ? TIA- JACK.

Yeh, riddle me this batman. If a guy takes his backup
plane to the slope two days before the race and crashes
it into the slope goofing off, was he a genius for flying
his backup plane or still a stupid idiot for goofing off.
I have my opinion, and I did not sleep well last night
