Re: [RCSE] Which HLG???? Rick Brown?
I know Rick and Bill pretty well. Bill is working on this Mantis type pod and boom hand launch which I saw fly several times, looks nice and fly's really well. I don't think Rick is working on anything new. They both do really nice work, and you can't beat the price. [RCSE] FYI: telescoping poles to 22'
I sent this earlier, but I got mysteriously unsubscribed, and so didn't see if it went through. My apologies if this is the second post. -Original Message- From: Aaron Coffey [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, June 13, 2000 12:29 PM To: RCSE Subject: FYI: telescoping poles to 22' I looked in the back of the kite catalog I received yesterday and noticed something new for 2000: telescoping poles. The 22' one looks great for attaching a thermal-spotting streamer to, so I thought I'd mention them here. As the ad says: Banner and windsock poles: These telescoping fiberglass poles are made for displaying banners, windsocks, spinners, and flags. By the way, could someone mail me all of Mark Drela's posts regarding his spar-sizing computations? Those were another item that was lost. I'd really appreciate it! Re: [RCSE] FYI: telescoping poles to 22'
I just bought a 20' crappie pole in Sears for $20. One could use it for thermal indicating streamers or the five sections would make nice tail booms for every size sailplane from hand launch to crosscountry. Re: [RCSE] Telario Talk or Picolario
See At Renschler: http://www.renschler.de/telario2.htm You can use altavista.com to translate everything by typing the URL into the Altavista Translation Engine At Thommys: http://www.thommys.com/html/body_telario_talk.html for the Telario which operates on 434 MHz. It is a vario which also reports altitude and voltage, and reportedly has the capability for adding other transducers. Another choice is the Robbe Telemetry system, also on 434 MHz. They have a number of transducers available now. Both of these use synthizied (sp?) transmitters which can be easily changed between the channels in the 434 MHz band by flipping DIP switches. Another choice is the Skymelody by Shulze. See: http://www.rconline.net/uwe-schulz/ It is compact but only indicates the rate of climb/decent and also tells you if the battery voltage drops below a certain threshold. One model is available which measures total energy, although it wont be very useful unless you have a 1/4 scale or bigger glider. Looks like a Ham license is required to operate these on 434 Mhz in the USA, although some use them without a Ham license. The power output is miniscule, so it is unlikely to cause interference to anyone more than a 1/2 mile away. Rumor was that Thommys was going to introduce one in the USA on a legal frequency. This was mentioned in a recent RCSD article. I have experience with the Telario and Skymelody. Both work as advertised. The Skymelody is smaller than the Telario, but so is the Picolario, and the Picolario has more capabilty. Both the Telario and Picolario have the capabilty to add transducers. - Jimmy Doug Turner wrote: I am interested in purchasing one of these varios but would like to talk to someone who has one. [RCSE] Cross Country questions
Hi guys, I attended the ISSA/LSF task day at Merrill Brady's place in S. California last weekend, and had a great time flying cross-country. Its the first chance I have had to fly cross country since getting my Level 5 goal there several years ago. Anyway, are there any other regularly scheduled cross country events in central/southern California? I seem to remember that the Thousand Oaks club hosted a yearly event at one time. Also, are there any kits or fuselages produced for cross country planes? The only one I am familar with is RnR's SBXC. How about poly vs. full house ships? I would think that a stable poly ship would be an advantage at the limits of vision, but RnR's sailplane seems to be the dominate plane at events as far as numbers are concerned. Are there weight and wingspan limitations for official events? I have a scale ship that would be a great cross country plane but it has a 6 meter span and weighs about 15 pounds. Thanks in advance for any help/advice! Stan Sadorf [EMAIL PROTECTED] RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Send "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
