Re: [RCSE] GP Spirit modifications request
Recieverws are single/double conversion, NOT transmitters. The Focus III SS/FM is avail in some markets with the 555 receiver, a good choice for a second receiver. Good luck. .bc([EMAIL PROTECTED]) also: ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) http://www.widomaker.com/~conk Williamsburg, VA 23185 On Thu, 23 Aug 2001, SilentFlight wrote: I've built two of these birds, and have yet to seriously fly them I'm new to this. Is there another, more sensitive, receiver that I can use in 2 meter planes so I have more than 500' of range, or am I pretty much limited to that by the single-conversion aspect of the transmitter? Have you ever tried a V-tail on the Spirit? Now that I've got a radio that supports in-radio mixing, I want to get my birds in the air I've got a V-tail Spirit, A Spirit ARF I get impatient sometimes!, the afore-mentioned V-tail Skeeter, and an Aspire EP built, and a Midwest essence I'm building with V-tail, and am considering building my spectra with V-tail as well as I already have the other electric sailplane with low-tail. Also got a Klingberg wing to build that was given to me, that I plan to duplicate the parts for and experiment with different spans and so on. - Original Message - From: Wes Gibson [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: RCSE [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Joubin Sani [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, August 23, 2001 10:10 PM Subject: Re: [RCSE] GP Spirit modifications request Joubin, I built the Spirit, as per the instructions, five years ago and have been flying the hell out of it ever since. I don't really see a need to beef the wing up. At times, I have a tendency to put a little too much pressure on the wings with the winch, but the Spirit is tough. The kit wing joiner is three pieces of plywood laminated to aluminum. Even after winching the plane into the ground and destroying the starboard wing, the wing joiner was still intact. After several years of flying the Spirit, I did modified the wing by raising the trailing edge to improve wind penetration. I wouldn't worry about that though until you get some experience and are comfortable with the stock Spirit. One important recommendation is to install the spoiler option on your wings. Those spoilers come in real handy for landing or when you get caught up in some serious lift. Have fun building and feel free to e-mail me with any questions. I've scoured the various websites and faqs online for info on RC sailplanes, eager to get my feet wet. considering all the info and advice I found, I went out and bought myself a GP Spirit 2M and am now preparing to build it in the near future. I would like to seek the groups advice on some ways to beef up the wing... what materials to use, how to go about building it, etc. Any thoughts would be appreciated! [RCSE] Foam Cutting problems - Answer
This is the solution to the small core wire breaking problem from my earlier post. Thanks to all who replied. Several people suggested a different wire. Several people suggested a different bow. Several suggested too much weight on top of the core. One person suggested to use the single point cut method (cut around a ivot) - The 1 was Roger from Tekoa I tried his method first (I already had everything I needed). It worked great. Easier to set up than the 2 point pull as well. Roger did say that the T-370 (his wire) may not provide enough resistance at the short wire lenght I was using (I had the power clips about 10 apart while using the 28 bow). Roger did not indicate if other wire (fishing leader being the most common suggestion) would work at that length. After using the pivot and single point I will never cut a large taper ratio any other way. It was way to easy, and eliminated all of the set up issues I have had in the past. Re: [RCSE] Foam Cutting problems - Answer
I have cut MANY tip's of the same size. I believe your problem was that you had you wire clipped at 10. What current setting were you using? I cut with the wire clipped @ 28 with the current setting slightly below the 28 setting with no problems. RE: [RCSE] Foam Cutting problems - Answer
Thanks for posting this follow up, Jim. I agree that the single point method is a really good idea, especially for any extreme taper. I had totally forgotten that with your type of system, the pull points (clips) are ALSO the power points, meaning that a shorter span between clips means less resistance in the circuit. While not necessarily a problem, it makes me realize that my wire is always powered from the points where the wire mounts to the bow, and thereby produces the same resistance regardless of the insulated pull points, so I've never had to consider this issue. I imagine that the single pivot method allows you to go back to pretty much whatever 'power span' works best, saving you from the risk of having your pull points too close together for your given type of wire. Anyhow, thanks for the cool insights into some of the many subtleties of the hotwire world. [RCSE] Attention scratchbuilders: Spectre 100 and 120 fuselages!
We are now offering our Spectre 100 and 120 fuselage (pod-and-boom style)separately, for those who like to scratchbuild. This fuselage is 50 1/4 long, weighs 5.2 ounces, and is designed to accept wings up to 9 wide(wider, with minor mods). The design requires that the wing be mounted to the top of the Pod. Distance from the nose to the wing leading edge is 10.5 inches. Pod length overall is 21 3/4. Room inside for 8 ounces of sheet lead for ballast, up to a pound of lead shot. It's designed for full winch launches and REALLY LOUSY landings (javelinstyle) ;-) One of the big reasons our Spectre 120 comes in at 45 ounces ready to fly is because of this unique assembly. Pre-installed wing mounting plates, towhook block, and skeg mounting plate included, as well as molded hatch cover. Our website has photos of this fuselage--it is used on the Spectre 120 and 100the pod portion is the same as is used on the Spectre 2 meter. It is sized to accept 600 mah nicad packs of the AE designation, and receivers such as Hitec's Super-slim fit beautifully. Micro servos are required for the tail. This item is not posted for sale on our website as yet, hopefully soon. $120 each plus shipping.
