[RCSE] re: adjustable towhook

2002-01-26 Thread Matt Fair

I have an organic with the same tow hook and it isnt
very adjustable, but it is strong and light. If
someone has it rigged as adjustable, I would certainly
like to see it or read how they did it... Would be
nice to have an adjustable towhook on my organic.

Kurt,

Check out the titanium hook that Star Flight sells.
This is the one
used on the Organic, Graphite, etc.

Re: [RCSE] re: adjustable towhook

2002-01-26 Thread Ben Diss

Simple. Extend the hole aft and slide the hook back. Loosen one screw and remove the
other. Extend one hole and replace the removed screw. Reverse the process for the
other screw.

Re: [RCSE] re: adjustable towhook

2002-01-26 Thread Pat McCleave

Matt,

It is very easy to make the stock Organic hook adjustable. Where you
currently have holes drilled for the machine screws just make a slot in the
bottom of the fuse. The inner piece of the tow hook is wide enough to carry
the loads as is the fuselage bottom. I have been using this method for
years with the standard tow hooks that mount in a blind not that is glued in
a plywood carrier in the fuse.

See Ya,

Ps, I first heard of this method from Ed Slegers.

The adjustable towhook is a complex piece of equipment. Don't attempt
this without adult supervision. I was disappointed that I could make a
towhook without having to use my milling machine.

For those who like fancy machined hooks, these are really nicely done.

RE: [RCSE] 6.0v rx packs for hitec rx's

2002-01-26 Thread Sheldon

Not really IMHO...I say that because when you up the voltage by going to
a 5-cell pack you do the following:
1) Over-stress the equipment when using a freshly charged pack. A 5-cell
pack, freshly charged, puts out almost 7 volts.
2) Increase the current draw of the equipment resulting in less flying
time
3) Increase the speed/torque but you also decrease the life expectancy
of your servos
4) Some equipment seems to get a little nervous on 5-cells yet is fine
on a standard 4-cell pack

My question would be WHY? If you want more speed/torque the best way to
get it is to upgrade the servos. That's my $.02 FWIW

Re: Height of wings (was:Re: [RCSE] Print Screen Function GOT IT !)

Hmm, (I'm guessing here), but I would think it would not matter where the
cg was located vertically. The CG is generally checked horizontally on the
underside of the wing surface only. If it's balanced correctly what
 difference could it make?
The only detrimental thing about a low wing is the loss of stability
through packing a fuselage rather than carrying one. But couldn't you
increase the dihedral enough to make up for it anyway?

I think you could *decrease* dihedral, and this is why: if roll is
normally gained by the increase in lift on the outside wing, then, on a
less stable (read: changes attitude faster) plane, it will roll
faster. To compensate, the dihedral should be less. It can't be zero, of
course, because then there would be no roll to start with.

Good discussion, I'm scratch building one here myself, and had been
thinking about ways to keep the tail section from trailing through the
 wing vortices.

That was my thought. Also, cooler. I've seen some slope racers that have
a low wing (I'm looking through my ooold RCSDs fromthe 80s that someone
gave me and I see a couple; one called Penetrator, one called the Song
Bird, another called Slopar, ...damn, I think the one I really liked was
in a book I no longer have.), and I think that the low fuse may be
prevalent because of the javlin throw and the necessity to have something
to hold.

The fact that this isn't widely done, though, leads me to feel not that
it's not a good idea, but that it *may* not be, and it would be good to
proceed with caution. Dammit, tomorrow will be a beautiful flying day,
and me with nothing to fly.

2002-01-26 Thread Mike Bailey

I have had experience with the JR 610 reciever not liking 5 cell. It will
glitch on a fully charged pack. This showed up on a 1/6 scale extra that I
had. I switched back to 4 cells. I saw a guy with a BIG DC-3 fight a glitch
problem for 30 min. I suggested to him that it might be his 5 cell pack. He
did not think that was it but the problem went away after the radio had been
on a while.

[RCSE] More Southwest Classic Contest Updates

2002-01-26 Thread Dave Wenzlick

More SWC info has been posted to the web site to answer many questions I am
receiving. The link below goes straight to the page and covers the flight
tasks, landing tasks, schedule of events, practice days and locations etc.
The weatherman is predicting possible rain on Wednesday from a winter
storm up north. They predict clear but cool through the weekend. The temp
was 75 here in Phoenix today and the flying was great out at the club field.
The highs on the SWC weekend may only be 64 or 65 so be advised. Night time
temps at Schnepf Farms might be in the mid 30's but it warms up quick when
the sun is out. The hand launch golf event on Friday is still accepting
entries. http://www.swlink.net/~ghanson/golf.htm

[RCSE] Profi related: Thanks to...

2002-01-26 Thread darylp

...Cap'n Jack. He sorted out how to get the Combi Switch for my rudder
coupling kickin' in as I pull flaps. I've set it so it comes in at about
25-30% flap movement.

Now I just need to put my landing flight mode on the same stick, and
sort out how to program a delay on the elevator, but only as it
compensates in pitch for flap use. Doubtful I'll mess with the delay for
Phoenix, but I will have the landing flight mode kicked in by the flap
stick. More to come on the Fusion after some more time on it tomorrow. I
am pretty impressed with it's slow speed performance.

If anyone wants the instructions on how to put the combi switch on the
flap stick, send me an e-mail offline, and I'll forward.

Thanks Jack!!!
