Hi James AL Anodizeing is you answer. A nice blue, red, green or yellow finish will fix it... check your local yellow pages for a shop.. What your getting on your hands and wing is corrosion. [RCSE] receivers
With all the talk about receivers, does anyone have Futaba 148DF on CH08 or thereabouts? I have had good luck with FMA Quantum 8 also. I changed over to ham band last year and am slowly replacing receivers as I get the loot or good deals. I do have one comment about the ham bands. Some of the big sailplanes (3 meter) did not like the ham band and range suffered. I attributed that to carbon wings and servo noise more easily getting to the receiver on 51 MHz rather than 72 MHz. (fewer harmonics). On recent planes I have located noise suppression capacitors close to each wing servo and problems have dissappeared. I also don't use the ducky antenna with the sailplanes on 51 MHz. However, I do use it on 51 MHz with highly aerobatic power planes with no apparent problems even deliberately way up there. However smaller servo runs and balsa wings. This test was done using the same receiver in both types of planes. Regards, Jim MacLean The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! [RCSE] wing rod stain
Fellow glider guiders, It is a small thing, but bothersome. When I push in the somewhat tight fitting aluminum wingrod into the fuse, it sheds a nasty black tarnish like substance. This gets all over my hands and thence onto my nice white wings. It cleans off with citrus cleaner. But, is there a strategy to minimize the mess? Can the aluminum be passivated some way thin enough to still fit into the carbon spar tubes? Is there a cleaning approach to minimize the black mess? Any thoughts are appreciated! [RCSE] Re: Why sell receivers
Why buy and sell any used toy plane stuff? One reason is to obfuscate the true cost of the hobby. I have plane stuff that has changed hands between me and a friend many times. Both of our wives are convinced that we have each made thousands of dollars on some of these toys. Anybody who tells her otherwise will be forever on my "Don't sell to" list. A. Re: [RCSE] Why sell receivers.
Bill, For a while I lots of planes, all ready to fly. I'm downsizing to fund the "ride in" project. I also bought out an estate sale yada, yada, yada. There are lots of reasons people have extra stuff. BTW, still have lots of Futaba 148DF 72 band receivers at $25 under the current tower price. $65 each. No crystals. Darwin N. If I need it, I would buy anything Brian sells, with NO questions about the reliability. I've bought so much stuff from Brian, I've lost count. Re: [RCSE] Why sell receivers.
Well, maybe you changed systems (from A to J or M or F) and now you have a bunch of receivers which you're not going to use because something 'else' works better with them. Sometimes you get spares with other purchases, and you don't need them. Sometimes a new model comes out which is more compact, and you decide to replace them all to save space/weight or whatever. Sometimes you just abandon one facet of flying, and no longer need the radio equipment you had dedicated to it. Lot of people don't want the receivers when they buy the plane (looking for a slightly better price, because they already *have* enough receivers.) Any number of reasons. To tell you the truth, there's an entire list of people out there I would not question the purchase from, if they said 'perfectly fine'. So, I've purchased a number of 'used' and 'nib' and 'lnib' receivers and greatly reduced prices. If I have a reason to question them, I have planes I can use to test them to my satisfaction. (Yes, there are those out there I wouldn't touch, but from Brian, hell I'd take it in a heart beat...if I needed one!) It's not unlike buying a complete transmitter! Ever drop yours? Ever let the person buying it know it's been dropped? No greater risk there (in my opinion). RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
