Re: [RCSE] NATS Entries Look Good
I would Agree, A Special Thanks to Ed Franz And Sheldon. Most folks do not Know the Grief That some people put upon the registrar, Thanks Ed and Sheldon CJ At 07:24 AM 6/28/2005, Marc Gellart wrote: A thanks to all that have entered the 2005 AMA National Soaring Championship. Tom Kallevang posted the final stats on the LSF website, www.silentflight.org , and the numbers are good considering the change in schedule that has been instituted by AMA. The total entries are 408, a bit down from '04 (417), but in the core classes, HL, 2M, UNL, RES, and NOS, they were up one entry, 361 versus 360. Also, with the weekend only having one class to fly, F3J versus F3B and the XC's in '04, we have maintianed well for this summer's NATS. I know I am looking forward to our soaring camp and all the action that will happen and seeing all my friends and new ones to meet the end of July. Thanks to Ed Franz and Turn Around Troll and Matrix Maniac Sheldon for getting the entries handled and matrix's set up. [RCSE] Re: [SALglider] parachute in a thermal - they can really circle....
Funny story. Nice Air. I'm sure Joe was circling the chute? Surprised he didn't try to retrieve the chute via mid air snag. Steven Meyer SOAR LSF IV At 04:08 PM 7/1/2005, José Roberto Clark Reis wrote: Hi guys this is quite of a funny story: In april this year, there was the Intergliders 2005 in the city of ITU here in Brazil. A friend of ours had just baught a kevlar reinforced F3J/F3B chute, all fency and stuff On the maiden flight, Joe Wurts asked me to tow his icon (thats usually when a 6'6, 300 pounds Deffensive Tackle come in handy) on the usual pulley system on the end of the line, there it was, the brand new parachute and Joe holding his Icon. Prior to zooming, the cambered the whole wing (he wanted to drag me down de field .hehehe keep trying Joe) and the line simply broke. Well, this is pretty much normal right? Not if you have a parachute that knows how to circle a thermal. Instead of coming down to be recovered, the chute kept going on and on and on it went untill we lost sight of it. and honestly, it was going UP and it was not an optical ilusion... Sorry about the off topic, but I couldnt resist. if someone has Joe Wurts'es new e-mail, could one forward this one to him?? He will remenber this comic scene for sure.. [RCSE] All we could eat...
I just shreaded thermals today, and flew my ICON lite like I stole it all day long. 8-) Took it up to just over 1900' easily... Countless dynamic thermal loops, my ICON was on full step speed wise minutes at a time. Ran down the battery doing this, so I charged up to go again. TK's new Ava built by Dave Hauch does pretty nice thermal loops too... 8-) Thermaled upside down from 320' to just over 900' feet in about 5 minutes with my ICON lite. I can't remember a day here in Chicago when the thermals were any larger or stronger, it was seriously all we could eat...
