[RCSE] NorCalF3F Racing Davenport Results

2005-10-02 Thread rich.speroni
I got there around 11:30 AM. Wind was just like I predicted it would be, wnw
15-20 mph. We got in a total of 9 rounds plus a Zero round. We decided since
we were short handed , we would do 2 rounds at a time. Flying 2 up when
short handed is the way to go. I think it's allot less hectic. The key to
flying well was proper ballast selection and lucky winds swinging to the
west. I have never flown D-port where it was this cyclic. If the wind turned
up a tad north the upwind leg was 6-8 seconds, and 3 seconds back. Base "B"
had a sweet spot but with wind direction changing though out it was hard to
hit it consistently. If you didn't carve B just right but opened up the turn
the wind would lay on the top of your wing and push you back and kill your
energy.

Fast Time went to Dave Reese with a 47.44. Real clean and tight. Nice going.

Darrell Zaballos was the winner, good flying Darrell you deserved this one
with your smooth flying. Dave Reese second and Tim Bigley third .

Results:
Darrell Zaballos 7897.4
Dave Reese 7656.1
Tim Bigley7265.7
Rich Speroni 7204.0
Harry Sandoval 6708.7
Joe Foster 4087.8

Now all I have to do is re-glue my ballast tube back in. It's too bad my NYX
had a slight accident. The conditions were perfect for her. I'm sure glad
the NYX is designed for slope racing if that incident occurred with my Y2K
it would have been toast.

See you later
Rich

Does anyone out in soaring land know if Jack

If he is, I'd like to talk to him about some of his older

I'd like to get a phone number if anyone has

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I recently purchased several large sailplanes from a
friend of a friend. The lot originated from a pilot
who had passed away. I want to gather information on
the sailplanes before I start playing with them, but I
do not recognize one of them.
The Bird of Time is easy to recognize, and the book
that came with the Mystery Ship makes ID easy. But
the third sailplane is unknown to me. It has a 12'7"
wingspan, RES, fiberglass fuse. Pictures available
here:

http://www.vinceherman.net/tempsailplane/IMG_3588.JPG

I can take more pictures or answer any questions on
the model to help. Thanks in advance.
Vince

p.s. To see the whole mess piled up in my garage,
alone with the transmitter, histarts, a NIB Bird of
Time kit and a 2 meter Spirit that I got from another
club member, go here:
http://www.vinceherman.net/tempsailplane/
I think I got a good deal. :)

I would have to agree I think it is an Aquila. The Aquila Grand had a 10'
span, so the XL was more than likely larger and fits the description.

Looks like your unknown sailplane is a nicely finished Aquila XL. I'm
envious...

Vince,
Apeears to look a lot like an Airtronics Aquila. That was a standard 100"
so maybe this is an Airtronics Aquila XL That's my best guess.

Gordy doesn' t need an alarm clock to travel with he has one of those
talking timers. He should just remember to set it and he can wake up to
the count down. Then he would never miss a plane again.

Chad

It got worse this morning
No wake up call in Cincy, so ended up missing this flight by 3 minutes...
Leaving now at 12:30, arriving Fresno at 4:30 today...save my spot :-)

See you around 6pm tonite I guess.

Gordy
Still excited to see you all!

So does anyone besides me think we should take up a collection, in order =
to buy Gordy an alarm clock to travel with???

;-)

I had a chance to take a look at Kennedy Composites Supra, and I have to
tell you, it is not short on graceful lines and very trick engineeringtoo
bad Barry ran out of time getting the gear in it.

the all molded tail parts are really amazing in their finish and
formlikely our AMA soaring column writer will have some photos, certainly
Barry will have some on his site soon.

(not really his son, actually our Website Master, and another wood master
sportsman for Louisville, Ben took wood at the DLG National this year, he's been

of soaring in Muncie to save two other guys from having to carry wood home
:-)

Me? My hopes and dreams of glory have been reduced to hopes and dreams of
just making it thru the rounds today in VisaliaI'm in good company so big
