[RCSE] Genie LTS at Pumpkin Fly
With all of Harley's contributions, I thought I would point out that Jim Carlton flew his Genie LTS that Harley built. He was in the top five most of the day, but was another victim of a burial in man-on- man. He flew very well and the Genie proved that it can compete with the best of them. I'm sure we'll see more of the Genie in the future. Many of us were very impressed with the performance and engineering of this fine plane. Barry RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Pumpkin Fly report
Well, I lied about the weather, not purposely, but it got windier than the weather info predicted on my Thursday post. Also even a bit of frost on Sunday morning. But, the sun was out, wind stayed below 15, averaged about 10+ on Saturday, less windy Sunday and a bit cooler - temps in the low 70's, high 60's. We flew in short sleeves in challenging soaring conditions. 28 fliers showed up, some new faces and many of the guys we fly with regularly in OVSS. Some notable regulars were missing and missed. Saturday morning was calm with light lift, then progressively windier, with ballast in, and tricky air. Sunday had a bit lighter winds, but still had ballast going in and out. We ran very long winch lines and flew mostly 10 to 12 minute tasks. Six winches and flight groups of 5 or 6, got us six rounds in on Saturday and five on Sunday thanks to very efficient scoring by Bob Scheidt on Saturday and Steve Siebenaler on Sunday. There was huge lift both days with weird wave lift, often hard to distinguish between wave and thermal, and as you might imagine huge sink. Many guys reported getting just scary high and ranged wy out. The only off-field landing happened when Karl Miller was watching the wrong plane, two red moldies side by side. Sorry to see Karl lose a fine plane. In spite of the wind, very little damage to toys beyond that. Since we fly seeded man on man, the shuffling of positions both days was remarkable. Several pilots did some major burying of their competitors. We had five flight groups, with pilots moving up and down two groups, (10 places) or more on several occasions. Rich Burnowski lead the way with more than one burial flight over the weekend. He was really tough, ranging out and finding lift someplace all weekend. He placed first both days, and naturally took the overall award. The Voice of America park is a great place to fly with open space and few trees. Plan on flying with us in the spring of 06 at the annual Memorial Contest that will start the '06 OVSS contest season. I'll let others report on this event, but a big thanks to CSS club members for the work to put this on. A contest of this size is a group effort. Thanks to all that travelled to fly with us. If ya didn't ya missed a good one. Barry Andersen CD Saturday: co-CD Sunday, John Measamer Here are the top ten for both days, with scores. Planes are from memory Saturday: 1. [RCSE] JR/Horizon sponsors ECHLGF
Major news. I came home from a short vacation yesterday and found a rather large box on my porch from JR/Horizon with a message "contest donation"! I was quite excited and opened it immediately - there was a brand spanking new XP-9303 radio set inside with a small JR700 sailplane receiver! That is about $600 value! Remember, every contestant gets one free raffle ticket! Additional tickets are only $10. Don't know about other pilots, but I will be buying additionl tickets myself this year! :-) We are going to have a heck of a raffle with only 24 registered pilots so far. Here is the list once again: A special award to the 1st place in sportsman - Gambler kit from Allan Wright. A special award to the highest placing first time contestant - $100 certificate from Atlantahobby.com by Cliff Whitney. Raffle prizes: -DVDs from Paul Naton -RAM2 from Randy Brust -Taboo GT kit -XP-4.5 kit from Denny Maize -JR radio set XP-9303 -small things (batteries, servos) donated by club members I wish JR/Horizon told me about the donation a few weeks ago so that I could advertise it here and in other places, but I am very glad about it anyway! I am going to extend the registration until Wednesday for those who may have been on the fence about coming or not coming to the contest. At that time I will have to finilize the flight matrix and print out the flight cards and score sheets. If you want to register now, please e-mail me and Dick Proseus about it and just bring the check/money to the contest. Here is the contest web-site one more time: http://olgol.com/contest. I will update the list of pilots soon. Please come and join us in Wilson, NC this weekend! Do not forget the Friday warm-up and DLG clinic. I have had several people reply positively about coming on Friday. Regards, Oleg. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
